Cover of The Road to Oz by L. Frank Baum of a green etching of a road to a city with a red sunset.
The Road to Oz is a long one and L. Frank Baum’s heart isn’t quite in the game anymore but there’s at least hints at his more leftist outlooks on the world:

Slaves of the Republic (4.12) - The harshest moment of the episode is the thesis that it is better to commit suicide than go on as a slave, something that I do love is in a show meant for children. It’s a bold way to communicate what slavery is as a concept. This is also Matt Lanter’s episode as
up to the cliffhanger. 8/10.
Anakin through and through. It’s great at showing him with noble intentions, making the wrong choices at every turn when separated from Obi-Wan. What holds the episode back is the production issue of the cast being almost all Clone Wars regulars, it takes you out at points especially at the build

Django Unchained (2012) - In many ways Tarantino pulling the same trick twice and doing it well, but there are more cracks than people realize.

The Tramp (1915) - A bit primitive but Chaplin has the talent to use early film language.

Honestly you should. Lidster approaches it with the emotional weight it deserves and you don’t have the mess that was Keith Boak’s direction.
Cover of Doctor Who: Aliens of London featuring the TARDIS graffitied with Bad Wold, Rose, and the Doctor while a damaged Big Ben and the Slitheen loom.
Some I reviewed Davies’ first tenure on #DoctorWho in 2023 with novelizations I think it’s only fitting to look at Aliens of London:

Whose Doctor Who (1977) - Weird little time capsule but the making of bits are great.

Ustinov I get maybe, he’s a bit too comedic but Finney is great and that adaptation of Orient Express is one of the best Christie adaptations.
I mean Albert Finney and Peter Ustinov are right there.
I’d rather see a new theatrical Miss Marple.

Family is an unconventional episode of #StarTrek The Next Generation that would likely be derided today, and that's why it's great:

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe (1988) - Best when the moody lighting and snowy landscape disguises some of the costumes.

Cover of Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz featuring a blond Dorothy holding a kitten a the Wizard with piglets across his arms and shoulders all on a yellow background.
Going back to Oz to look at Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz, where L. Frank Baum lacks interesting things to say with his fairy tale setting but kids demand more:
