A brown insect with an enlarged, helmet-like pronotum edged in bright red and clear wings with the bottom edge bright red and a blue patch near the head. The insect is standing on a leaf.
Super snazzy treehopper found in a shrubby patch along a roadside near a small stream. Check out the red racing stripes!

He looks even stupider from this angle
A very chonky pale green caterpillar with aqua blue eye spots and an orange tail that curls downward. It is standing on a leaf on the mossy ground with a waterfall in the background.
When your snake mimic outfit ends up looking like a cartoon instead.

Graphic novel little coming showing the Zygothrica flies done in watercolor. First frame a few loosely drawn flies with a quote bubble "GET OFF MY FUNGUS! THERE'S NOT "MUSHROOM" FOR YOU!" 2nd panel is a closeup of the fly with triangle eyes with a black box behind him. It says "*STARE*" The third panel is loosely drawn. A female fly is shown thinking "Fight! FIGHT!" A couple of males are shown headbutting with a large POW and BAM callout on top a la Old batman comic style

He's a vibe.
An elongated beetle with metallic green head and pronotum, bright pink elytra, and a black abdomen. It is standing among yellowish-white mushrooms.
There were also rove beetles running around swiping fly larvae. It was a whole tiny ecosystem on one log. Amazing.

These guys were so cool. And they seem to only come out in the afternoon around 1200pm. We passed by earlier in the morning two days in a row and they weren't there
A photo showing the screen of a phone with a fly in the frame and the mushrooms in the background on a mossy log. The mushrooms are pale yellow and have tiny brown flecks on them that are the flies.
Just to give you a sense of how tiny these guys are here is @scibugs.bsky.social getting some video. If you zoom in the tiny flecks on the mushrooms are the flies.
An elongated insect with a blue metallic head and pronotum, shiny pink elytra, and a black abdomen. It is standing among fronds of moss.
When you're rockin' metallic blue with a shiny pink backpack.
We found a few of these beautiful rove beetles in a mossy area on the trail today. Most rove beetles are predators of insects and other invertebrates living on the forest floor.
