Taken this way, there are only two classes. Those who don't have to sell their labour/time, and varying grades of those that do. I'm not sure that quite captures everything people mean when they talk about class. Although it underpins most of it.

You have every right to object on pragmatic, moral and legal grounds.

That is a reasonable definition, but lots of the middle class would fit into it too. Most, even.

And yes, I'm aware that, in part, my statement reflects my environment. But there are at least two very different meanings for working class.

I think outside of this division, it's really quite rare to meet anyone from the upper or working classes in the way those terms were originally meant, the meaning of working class having drifted so far.

Once again, it has come as a big surprise.
