I feel this. Deeply.

For me the question isn’t what’s the right gift, it’s what you’re trying to show your audience about the character(s) through this interaction. What do we learn about them? Already he’s got her male best friend involved; as a reader, I’m wondering why he couldn’t figure it out himself (for example).

Nothing like an evening with a couple hours to write! Naturally, I spent it watching a nearly decade-old Markiplier series (The Evil Within) on Youtube.

Seconded on Writing Excuses. You can go all the way back to Season One but I think they also did something in Season 10 that kind of rebooted / summed up what came before. Good stuff!

It's getting all too real...

Caverns so cheesy, even the nihilists say - 'Okay, fine. Maybe it's not a *total* write-off.'

Occasionally it'll put out a real banger of a sentence, but in general it's reliant on heavy editing and rewrites to make it sound human. Where it's great is for rote tasks like emails and low-risk stuff.

But for everyone saying AI is going to take over writing etc. etc. -- it's simply not at a point where it can replace human introspection and experience. It's just choosing the next best word - so it's incredibly helpful for brainstorming and drafting.

I think this was the tipping point. Just people churning out these AI books that haven't been proofed - and then turning around and getting them bot reviews (if I recall) so that folks end up buying them and complaining.

This quote hits different when you're stuffing your face with bread and cheese at the hotel bar.

I can't stand these hotel showers with like 17 knobs on them - right up until I get in and remember how convenient that sht is.

Then I hate it all over again because I don't have that sht at my house and also because somehow my sixth-floor hotel room gets hot water faster than my two-story.

This has gotta be a reaction to the deluge of raw, AI-generated drek people are shoveling into the store, but it's still got wiggle room.

What if you used a tool like Sudowrite to generate a draft, but ultimately wrote original text on your own, from scratch? Technically brainstorming, yeah?

I just wish the algorithm wasn’t all: “BEEP-BOP here’s 237% more content similar to that image you capriciously revealed before you knew what FCF was. You brought this upon yourself, human.”

We have come to terms.

I managed to finish a freelance blog post ahead of schedule, which freed up my weekend nights for fiction.

Faced with the terrifying prospect of progressing my manuscript I of course came here to chase dopamine instead.

Thanks to my Discover feed, I now know what FCF is.
