Maybe a proper American remake would’ve flipped the script. A polite European couple invites an American couple they meet on vacation to stay with them. Turns out the Americans are the maniacs and the Europeans are too polite to kick them out.

Actually… yeah, I’d watch that movie.

I’m sure the original is in fact better, but it is relentlessly bleak, and (similar to THE STRANGERS) a lot of the film’s tension is derived from the protagonists being infuriatingly passive (unlike THE STRANGERS this time it’s a feature and not a bug).

I decided to watch the original Danish SPEAK NO EVIL instead of the remake because I heard the US version was watered down.

Mistake. That was my mistake.
