Northwestern has not received any NIH funds since March. No written communication about why or what can be done. Thank you Ben Singer for raising awareness at #ATS2025

Federal research cuts impact local economies, and stall progress.

Publish an opinion piece in your hometown paper on June 16th to SPREAD THE WORD about how scientific research contributes to the everyday health and wealth of the general public.

Yesterday many HHS staffers at FDA, CDC, and NIH found out they had been fired after being denied entry to their work buildings.

"One wondered aloud if it was a cruel April Fools’ Day joke"

I can understand wanting to make the government more efficient, but does the process have to be so cruel?

Science and research in the USA have given us so much. It's time we stand up and show our support for research funding - for NIH, for public universities, for research hospitals, for everyone.

Such a disservice to the next generation of great scientists in this country.

Indirect Costs 101, Sally J. Rockey | Association of American Universities (AAU) Sally Rockey, explains indirect costs and how they support research.

Very good source to understand indirect costs by Sally Rockey, former Deputy Director for Extramural Activities at NIH.

Very thorough and clear.

If you want to understand indirect costs or have family or friends who are pestering you to explain IDC, send them this...

The War on Science (Feb 2025 teach-in draft) The War on Science What’s happening? What can we do about it? An interactive teach-in for biomedical researchers Please share, modify, and repurpose this template presentation (with credit). Good luck...

Made some slides for scientists to talk about what's been happening & what we should do next. There are probably many people better qualified than me to talk about these issues. If that's you, please, please, please consider holding some virtual advocacy training sessions for researchers this week.

If you had a study section or similar NIH travel canceled, or indeed if you have not, can you reply with the dates of the meeting and whether it's on or not? Would be good to get a sense of what time period this applies to for now (esp if NIH is muzzled and can't announce it...)

Two things concerned scientists can do:

1. Call your members of Congress and explain how disruptions in funding would be disastrous for jobs and research in their district/state.

2a. Call your dept. chair and express your concern. The goal is to end the convo w/…

We show a lower frequency of inhibitory events when recording from neurons from male rats as compared to females. This suggests that the DMS is less inhibited in male rats, allowing for more flexible responding.
