we have failed as a society to train people to communicate, the way we teach students to write (when we bother to) is the most bland, anodyne crap, all while making them go to college for reasons that even we can't explain beyond "you need it to get a job." Kids don't get why they're going.

A picture of a desk with various tjotchkes, a split keyboard, and a dark grey cubic patterned desk mat. The keyboard has neon purple and turquoise keycaps which give a real cyberpunk vibe with a subtle light blue glow underneath. On the left there is a column of macro keys with old school beige and grey keycaps

These profiles following 10k+ people, why? How do you meaningfully interact and digest what's being shouted into your void?

I wish we could cultivate a culture where people get excited about and share the new skills they've learned more than the new stuff they've bought.

A knife that's just been used to slice bread can go back in the drawer. Bread doesn't count.

I had a brief period of lighthouse hyperfocus in my youth. Though it did help that I've seen that particular one in person several times, the wings are quite distinct.

Suddenly mad that we'll never get a Discworld book in which the wizards invent something like Large Language Monsters that eat everyone's stuff before regurgitating it, and Vimes arrests them all for being bloody stupid

The biggest quality of life improvement in using the internet since uBlock Origin is Consent-O-Matic. Never again do I need to deal with some dark pattern data consent pop-up.

I remember when a new version of Windows meant there would be all sorts of new features and the trailers would have a big song announcing the update and everyone waited in line for the new hotness and now your computer randomly reboots at some point and the update is you can no longer save files.

Dune has the same plot as the Westminster Dog Show: After generations of careful breeding, we have produced this perfect little freak of nature and now it has behavioral issues

A happy pink blob is safely ensconced in an armoured block, he hasn't bought a Seagate drive in more than a decade.

He thinks it's safe to come out, try some of these new Exos drives with good pricing and decent Backblaze stats.

All the drives he purchased are DOA or have various odd SMART issues, he's given a gut punch having scarcely left his safe box.

Never again, back in his safe armoured box, layers thicker than ever.

The statistician in me is loath to be anecdotal, but I've had improbably bad luck with Seagate drives ☹️

I seem to have stained my fingers brown from working with some fancy wood today.

I am not sufficiently mentally prepared for this burden.
