A radical proposal for #bbcnews for @lisanandymp.bsky.social and @dcmsgovuk.bsky.social Nuke the nasty tone of much news journalism creeping in across #bbc news and give all news provision to the #worldservice or to @channel4news.bsky.social @itnproductions.bsky.social . That will change the tone.

NEW: Net migration falls sharply to 204,000 in the year to June.

That’s a fall from 649,000 in the year to June 2024. It is a drop of nearly 80% from its 2023 peak.

Rutger Bregman (@rutgerbregman) on Threads I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture. They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American...

14.Disclaimer. I worked at the BBC for 15 years. Never in News. Occasionally News adjacent. I knew the Editorial Guidelines inside out and seemed constantly hired internally to clear up misdemeanours. They have either changed so drastically or are simply being ignored

13.while only showing images of the smirking Michael Prescott until eventually someone must have whispered in the studio directors ear and they hastily changed the image to show a still of her whilst still video of him - also not equal.

12.The @bbcnews.bsky.social even managed to put its foot in its mouth in the studio discussion after the first panel when the estimable RichardEyre was asked to tell us how it was going and gave us a very balanced account of what he said (Michael Prescott) and what she said( Caroline Daniel)

11.On we go. Complicity is a huge issue for everyone especially @bbcnews.bsky.social I’m particularly sensitised today having listened to the @dcmsgovuk.bsky.social select committee hearings yesterday for hours. Still shocked both by the BBCers and the Select Committee asking such dull questions.

9.Is it a world record? Does anyone actually care ? Well yes and no? Can the public not decide if they wish to vote for this party whose councils seem sub optimal and whose Nathan Gill imprisoned? Do we need the BBC boosting him in this way to know what @theguardian.com already broke this story?

4 months ago 0 0 1 0

8.And that Nigel Farage is not a racist and should be judged on the important things he is doing now. The 3rd boost for NF in 18 minutes. And this being the top story in the universe @bbcnews.bsky.social in the UK is the 4th and biggest of the 4 boosts for Farage on the BBC in 18 minutes.

4 months ago 0 0 1 0

7.At least that is not the BBC saying it. Again this boosts Nigel Farage twice in 15 minutes and is also inaccurate - it’s a punt. Now we have a Conservative standing up for him - Tim Montgomerie). This guy identifies as a devout Christian saying basically boys will be boys.

6.I’m still listening at 13.15 and now the presenter/reader has changed the wording to say “bookies describe him as the favourite to be the next PM”.

4 months ago 0 0 1 0

5.and as Reform currently have only 4 or 5 MPs it is unlikely to be NF. This is how it is done in the UK .Not on opinion polls conducted in the first year of a Government. This was not in “Quotes” at the top of the bulletin.

4.Third. If an early election were called there would likely be a hung Parliament and then the question of who the PM would be would be likely to be the leader of the party with the the most seats

4 months ago 0 0 1 0

3.Second, if the Right wing press or the left wing or anyone manage to challenge Keir Starmer's Prime Ministership and win then they will be the next Prime Minister and that certainly won’t be NF

2.This is bias. Why? First: we have only just had an election and there is not one due for about 4 years.

4 months ago 0 0 1 0

1.I've just heard the @bbcnews.bsky.social presenter on the 13.00 news at the top of the bulletin describe Nigel Farage as the person “most likely to be the next Prime Minister”.

Picture of Nathan Gill arriving at court. Headline: Reform UK and Russian Bribes. A Nathan Gill Timeline.

NEW There's no overstating how significant the Nathan Gill case is. On Friday, the close associate of Nigel Farage was jailed for over 10 years for taking bribes ultimately from a friend of Putin. It's a complex, detail-heavy story that raises questions about Farage’s claim Gill was ‘one bad apple’🧵

I used to assess proposals for various academic bodies. First it became clear consultants were being used to write proposals and that was thought to be “ok”. Then I signalled to one entity that I count be sure if a human had written a proposal. Now I don’t think I can understand the proposals!

EPA, CDC, USAID and other data sites of federal government are all down or being scrubbed of long-term data that WE THE TAXPAYERS paid for. I teach with these tools! Why are our universities saying nothing about loss of access to information and research implications? I cannot believe the silence 🧪

There are pages disappearing. Datasets disappearing from the CDC and no doubt other places. I hope someone is keeping a record, the receipts and hopefully the underlying data. Perhaps AIs have scraped it all already and will save the day? Would love to hear from anyone! @ruchowdh.bsky.social

Is sometime keeping a list if all the disappeared pages and or trying to save data?
