That's because the clowns behind our railways never do. 🤡

Yeah, I don't expect any improvements in my working life now, it's just grit the teeth and bear it. It is what it is. 🤷♂️
Hey! My train is cancelled and the next one really late. Just like the one this morning. And every day! Whoop whoop! 🇬🇧 🚆

Another nice review of my New Labour book is in... Foreign Affairs says: 'O’Hara, a historian, offers a balanced and meticulously researched reassessment of Blair’s domestic legacy'. Read more here!

Last night we at Oxford Brookes ran a New Labour event as part of our wonderful @thinkhumanfest.bsky.social festival! Our MP @anneliesedoddsmp.bsky.social and Prof Patrick Diamond from Queen Mary in London came to discuss the Blair years with me...
Thank you. Without a change from quasi-market to planned system? Not very much.
I make a noise on social media. It gets noticed.
I've spoken to MPs on the crisis.
I give consults helping colleagues and experts across the sector - was in a workshop helping people yesterday and prepping a booklet on the crisis. Just been emailing with one important player.
I write about the crisis in the FT and The Guardian.
I gave requested evidence to the Select Committee.
I gave up half my job to save colleagues.
You can't keep on just slashing and burning everything that makes it worthwhile living and creates a sense of place and belonging. In the end you have nothing real left.

Let's be clear: the destruction of universities is a political choice. It doesn't have to be like this. Sure, there are issues, some serious, but Ireland's universities aren't totally screwed, nor The Netherlands'. The UK government has made a choice - it is demolishing and incinerating education.
I'm afraid it doesn't matter how good stuff is or how much students like it. Red line in the spreadsheet, it's gone.
Quite something to think we are staring down the barrel of a crisis which will end high level research and teaching as something spread evenly across the country's cities and towns, accessible to all, and both UK and devolved governments just don't seem to particularly care?
It's remarkable how most of the world's English-speaking democracies seemed to have gotten together and decided "let's destroy the main thing that led us to unprecedented prosperity: our systems of higher education."
I'm afraid it's nowhere near as good as a bin fire. It's a huge pyramid of skip blazes at best.
News I'm hearing from across universities is disastrous. The sector has been falling apart for months, but the process is now continuously speeding up. Outside a small handful of institutions, HE as we've known it has basically zero future.

Utterly ridiculous, and a sign that the 'pop' in the bubble may not be far away. Of course, the real skill is calling the exact moment.

Look at all those Tories saying they never liked Trump, they never agreed with him! Comical, but also deeply revealing.
A fifth of the US population is Catholic. 'We're right and the Pope knows nothing' is just electoral poison. Totally detached from reality. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
There's no doubt now that Reform UK's support is deflating fast. They're on the downslope. Unfortunately our elections will create a kind of 'blue mirage' of success for them because of the starting point. Probably too much to expect the media to reflect this, more's the pity.
