This is also why I'm a bear on Vance '28 - this is an elemental power, you can't just transfer it to a guy who hasn't been famous for 50 years.

One thing that’s clear to me is that unlike Trump after the first term, there’s very little protecting Elon from prosecution after this term. He’s not the President and it’s clear there’s very little documentation that would give him legal backup.

Yes. While there are absolutely things Democrats can and must do to slow, obstruct, etc, GOP hold both House and Senate majorities, severely limiting our options.
Johnson and Thune are handing over the own keys and relinquishing their own power. Even for the cynics this should be a shock.

If John Thune and Mike Johnson wanted to they could pass a law today ending a President’s ability to unilaterally impose tariffs and ending this stupid trade war.

this is another example of aping tyranny in an attempt to produce it. the reason you provide privileged access to media which is equivocal on your regime is to ensure that they receive your press releases first. if you do not have them onside then they will receive leaks.

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.
Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

If tariffs raise prices as they almost certainly will, the goodwill for Trump will sour very fast. All of the sudden all the corruption will become much more politically damaging.

Has NYC congestion pricing worked? MTA releases dramatic new traffic volume numbers
Quicker trips, fewer traffic jams, and shifts in commuting patterns are becoming more apparent. Here's what MTA officials are saying since congestion pricing has been implemented:
Every day, we get more evidence that congestion pricing is making car trips faster in Manhattan, making bus travel more reliable, and increasing the use & load factor of our mass transit system. Cannot think of a recent policy that has been so *immediately* successful. www.fox5ny.com/news/has-nyc...

It's been 3 weeks since Congestion Relief Zone tolling went into effect, and the program is working!
We're seeing traffic move quicker into and within Manhattan, which benefits all New Yorkers—drivers, bus riders, emergency vehicle operators, pedestrians, and more.

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent.
Opportunities are everywhere.
Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉

Because of all of you who raised your voices and concerns, Trump backed down. Just because the decision has been reversed doesn’t mean the damage hasn’t been done or the threats to people is over. Let’s keep the energy up and make sure the American people are paying attention.

The OMB recision is a good sign. Not only is it obviously the right thing to do but it’s put the admin on their heels and it’s our job to keep them there.

Just because there weren't half a million people marching on the mall like in 2017 doesn't mean people aren't pissed off. People need to take a few months before deciding the resistance is decimated.

People should honestly be more considerate about their posts to determine if they are in fact galvanizing or if they are demoralizing. It’s really important.

I do not think a lot of well meaning but non-lawyer dyed blue liberals and progressives have been well served by the messaging on this ruling — and more broadly, by some accounts on here and Twitter in general. Not only is not true, but it’s also not galvanizing and causes people to just give up.

I can tell you that dissecting the urgency or lack there of Chuck Schumer’s tweets is a waste of time. Like they aren’t that important.

The real effective forms of protest at the moment are going to come from a cadre of savvy bureaucrats and state level political appointees who will learn to implement Trump’s brazen orders in the most politically damaging ways (see: Medicaid).

Elected Democrats are basically powerless even when they are united. Successful opposition to Trump will require seriously damaging his approval. To do that, opponents have to prioritize their focus on the hideously unpopular and chaotic stuff.

To every extent possible elected Dems and people with power should resist this admin. But expecting to be able to protest maximally at every point of resistance will burn everyone out and it’ll collapse things that damage Trump with things that don’t.

It’s been a week so this feels really destabilizing but that destabilization will work in both directions. The effects are brutally cruel to the people of this country but the destabilization will destroy all political capital this admin has.

NEW: My staff has confirmed reports that Medicaid portals are down in all 50 states following last night's federal funding freeze. This is a blatant attempt to rip away health care from millions of Americans overnight and will get people killed.

Resistance works but there’s in fact a finite amount as much as we hate to admit it so picking the battles that are most damaging to Trump is an important exercise in prioritization.

There’s a difference between haphazardly trying to max out effort in every objection and outrage vs opportunistically calling out and further destabilizing the admin when it self inflicts harm. The fed funds thing is the latter.

Not to get all "parenthood changes your whole perspective," but I do think becoming a dad has made me even less tolerant of Bluesky's doomer brigade. I'm completely uninterested in having depressive strangers lecture me about how my daughter's future is written and there's nothing we can do.
