I do not think a lot of well meaning but non-lawyer dyed blue liberals and progressives have been well served by the messaging on this ruling — and more broadly, by some accounts on here and Twitter in general. Not only is not true, but it’s also not galvanizing and causes people to just give up.
I can tell you that dissecting the urgency or lack there of Chuck Schumer’s tweets is a waste of time. Like they aren’t that important.
The real effective forms of protest at the moment are going to come from a cadre of savvy bureaucrats and state level political appointees who will learn to implement Trump’s brazen orders in the most politically damaging ways (see: Medicaid).
Elected Democrats are basically powerless even when they are united. Successful opposition to Trump will require seriously damaging his approval. To do that, opponents have to prioritize their focus on the hideously unpopular and chaotic stuff.
To every extent possible elected Dems and people with power should resist this admin. But expecting to be able to protest maximally at every point of resistance will burn everyone out and it’ll collapse things that damage Trump with things that don’t.
It’s been a week so this feels really destabilizing but that destabilization will work in both directions. The effects are brutally cruel to the people of this country but the destabilization will destroy all political capital this admin has.
