It depends on how long the severance package is (mine was only a few weeks) but the grace period is only 60 days to get a new job, change their visa status, or prepare to leave. And many US employers are restricting interviews and hiring to people with permanent residency or citizenship.
60 days to find a new job or have to leave the country

70. On March 31, 2025, Plaintiff gave birth. 71. Plaintiff informed her supervisor that it was a difficult experience and that her baby required a stay in the neonatal intensive care unit. Notwithstanding, shortly thereafter and throughout April, 2025, with full knowledge that Plaintiff was on leave to care for herself and her newborn, Plaintiff was asked by her supervisor to work on MrBeast's upcoming Naruto collection product launch. Plaintiff worked on this product launch continuously during the month of April. 72. On April 24, 2025, Plaintiff was asked by her supervisor to manage an exhibition booth at a town hall event which required long periods of standing, physical work (such as cleaning and setting up displays), and required her to be away from her newborn for approximately 10 hours, three weeks after giving birth.

The filing accuses one of the supervising physicians of telling a Black resident that she “doesn’t give feedback to Black residents”.
UW could’ve addressed this, but they appear to have doubled and tripled down.
I interned at this newspaper at the very start of my business reporting career, and it has changed into something else very different
"No modern American city has ever run out of water. But chances are rising that Corpus Christi could be the first..."

"Even a poster of Martin Luther King Jr. has been yanked. Cal has also banned student organizations from hosting events at the center after complaints about pro-Palestinian signs."
Yeah, I agree. It's really depressing sometimes.
I'm so sorry these things happened to you, and I am so sad how many stories you recounted reminded me of my own experiences.

if there were any such thing as a "progressive billionaire," they'd buy this whole thing, restore good relations with the union, hire more people - including scooping up voices who've been pushed out of legacy media - and consider it a political investment the way the Ellisons are doing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
An incredible early review from Kirkus called The Cruelty of Nice Folks, “An urgent critique of ‘polite’ racism that demands attention.” www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews...
Even as a critic who has tried to write about MJ’s legacy with nuance and grace, I appreciate the clarity the director of Leaving Neverland brings to the table
A couple of years ago, when my college age Goddaughter was coming to NYC to visit, I made "Auntie MK’s Broke Young Person Guide to NYC Culture – Free Museum Days in Manhattan edition." - She used it to plan her time here while staying with me.

When Canadians talk about affordability, the discussion often revolves around the cost of fuel. While we pay for gasoline and diesel with our credit cards, in study after study, scientists have shown we also pay with our health. We should talk about it more. thenarwhal.ca/climate-chan...
Once again I need to be the reliable, stable person I need in my life (food, water, exercise, work, etc), even though many of the people with political power and my own industry are not reliable or stable.
A recent study on childhood vaccinations over 30 years in the US found that vaccinations for measles, pertussis, and several other diseases saved society a whopping $2.7 trillion, while saving over a million lives, preventing 32 million hospitalizations, and averting 508 million illnesses.
A repeat of this charming exchange? Yes, please!
