But using UX and UI for coming up with ideas to inspire leadership seems like a short fall.

Product people and designers coming together and defining what we should do next, that is where it's at.

Product managers and Designers are two sides of the same coin, it's a matter of alignment.

I buy all you said. There hasn't been a better time for UX to 'do our thing'.
As designers we can create fireworks for people to be excited 🚀
Animations and UI excellence is on our tool box.
Ultimately you solve a problem for someone, and that will never change, right?

And by vision do we mean:
- future thinking bells and whistles? (UI based vision)
- Ideas on how we can influence metricts through design and we don't need to wait for product to define it.
- Be Shamans of product and bring ideation to leadership and bypass agile process for decision making.

In the context of product/UX strategy conversations, here are some cursed examples :D
- 'What is your 'vision' for the next X months in this area?
- We are planning a 'vision' sprint to decide next steps.
- As a leader, you need to have a defined 'vision' for the area you lead.

I feel 'Vision' is a cursed word.

If a proper Product strategy is in place it doesn't need a 'Founding Designer'. These roles are queue for creating landing screens and one pagers, design as a tool for what the other 'founders' had in mind.
