A digital drawing of author Maia Kobabe, a white nonbinary person with short brown hair wearing a patterned blue shirt, who scowls while holding up a copy of eir book GENDER QUEER: A MEMOIR. Maia is saying: H.R. 7661 is a national book banning bill which seeks to remove any book that "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism" from all public schools in the US. This would ban my books, and any other book with trans themes, from public schools. PLEASE call your House Reps and say: NO ON H.R. 7661!

As hard as we are fighting, book bans are having an impact on the books being written and published. To put this another way, a very small number of well-funded people who don't write books, don't teach books, don't work in libraries are trying to decide what books are available for everyone else
We’re doing a query drive to raise money to help relieve acute food insecurity among families sheltering in place. Come through!
Do you want to get up to 4000 words of your children's novel/chapter book read? What about up to 1000 words of two picture books?
If so, join the Kidlit Manuscript Workshop! You'll get feedback from your peers, including me!
Why not make writing a priority in 2026?

My books have been out for 7-8 years, but I stopped opening royalty statements a few years ago because I was scared of how "bad" they'd look.
Recent circumstances compelled me to take the plunge and open one, and I'm glad I did.
Does anybody else have this hangup with book-related finances?
A depressed traffic light? It's missing the go.
Hi Christa! 😄
Writers! I’ll critique a query letter and first page for 5 people in exchange for a donation to a food bank, local restaurant with a free-meal program, program collecting funds for people in need of food, etc.
If you need food, or know someone who does, DM me or comment below.
❤️❤️❤️
I've been thinking about spicing up my reading next year with some ~Reading Challenges~. Does anyone have any categories they like? I'm especially excited about "A book written by the author of another book I dislike" lol
Favorite picture book in recent memory is CABOOSE by @100scopenotes.bsky.social and @ohtruth.bsky.social. This hippo child chooses chaos by messing with the front of the school lineup. Then he gets sent to the back, and does the same exact thing. Truly an agent of anarchy.

Today I want to spread some positivity in the world.
If you reply to this post, I'll recommend a song for you.
If you want to mention some music you enjoy, you can, or you go for the chaos option and not give me any hints lol
Feel free to laugh at my foibles. That's okay by me!

Hey school friends.
I've posted about how I do school visits and library workshops. But I'm also more than happy to show up to GSAs (or other equivalent groups) for free and talk to your kids about what it's like to be a published queer (and neurodivergent) author.
iamericbell.com for contact.
After a few seconds of thinking, it came to me. It helps that there are repeated digits throughout the number 😅
I have a feeling this is going to keep being relevant for a while.
Look who cartwheeled onto Bluesky: the irrepressible Zack, from my ALAN COLE books. Give him a follow and say hi 👋
Post from John Perricone 3d • Several years ago l invited a Buddhist monk to speak to my Senior elective class, and quite interestingly, as he entered the room, he didn't say a word (that caught everyone's attention). He just walked to the board and wrote this: "EVERYONE WANTS TO SAVE THE WORLD, BUT NO ONE WANTS TO HELP MOM DO THE DISHES." We all laughed. But then he went on to say this to my students: "Statistically, it's highly unlikely that any of you will ever have the opportunity to run into a burning orphanage and rescue an infant. But, in the smallest gesture of kindness -- a warm smile, holding the door for the person behind you, shoveling the driveway of the elderly person next door -- you have committed an act of immeasurable profundity, because to each of us, our life is our universe."
Been thinking about this a lot (not tagging the sender, for their privacy). Most of us won't have the chance for for grand, capital-R Resistance heroics. But every one of us will have a thousand small choices to make about how to live our lives and where to draw lines. Use them well.
Howdy! I've enjoyed your work on the JUSTIN CASE series very much over the years. 😊
It's a shame that millions of Harry Potter fans will never realize how much of a hateful, spiteful bigot JK Rowling is.
