Thank you so much for coming! We really appreciated it and our jammers loved it ✨
Thank you so much for coming by to do a talk! Hope to see you at future Nordic Game Jams!
#dkgame 🎮 #gamedev: I went to the Nordic Game Jam industry showcase of games made in Denmark and wrote a bit about the games I saw and played!

... I've played about anxiety, yet despite different games having very similar themes and stories they still expressed those stories so very differently and in there lies the magic of games that allow even derivative works to feel and be experienced in so many ways :)
I think that's different from what I said at least. What I mean is that while all stories and games are derivative to a more or lesser extent, the way storie are expressed can vary greatly despite how similar the stories are. As an example, I can't count on two hands how many games...
Games can show the exact same story in any number of different ways leading to vastly different experiences. Isn't that where games shine? The ability to tell stories in an unthinkable amount of ways not purely the narrative on its own?
Hmm, but what makes that a problem, I guess is the question. Does something have to be unique in order for you to get into it? (no judgement by the way). Because as much as you say writing is easier in that regard, I'd argue it's the same. Most stories are entirely derivative of the same few stories
This makes me curious. How has Defold managed 3D lighting before this?
There is this idea that once a technology has been invented and made available, then it's here to stay. You can't make it not exist anymore, so better get used to it.
That's the idea these people are pushing.
Another perspective perhaps: A lot of derivative games are, when distilled down to their mechanics, the same as existing games however one or two aspects were done way better. It can lead to two games being similar, yet one feeling much better than the other. Hope you find your spark again.
It was rumored in the past, I should have been clearer. I have seen that the current version is slated for 2027 yes, I'm kind of morbidly curious how it turns out.
I've actually been thinking about the rumored Zelda movie for a long time. It never got made, but the question always was "How do you even cast link when he has zero lines?". I was kind of intrigued at the prospect.
Hm. I might be missing something fundamental here in what the worry might be. Although, we have examples of "games based on movies based on games" and their track record is terrible. With how careful Nintendo is with 1st party titles I guess I'm not too worried they'll do something stupid.
I guess my point was more that, Mario has a much more grounded role in those stories and is often the hero, like Link, and even Link has an emotional range. So why not Mario? I guess I'm not quite sure I see the problem with a story driven Mario game a-la the movies.
I did read through some of the blog post there and I have to wonder; Even if Mario is just this vessel for platforming games and is in no other way an actual character, then why is it bad if Nintendo wanted to, say, make a story based Mario game? Wouldn't that just a new Mario RPG or Paper Mario?
Exactly this. Mario games don't really have a continuity.
What do you call a dog underwater?
A subwoofer.
Not a whole lot, is my guess.
I see. It seemed like you were making a tool for unity and that was the goal here.
And I'm not here to accuse or interrogate. Was merely curiosity.
Would this not be a resource for Unity..?
From this previous statement in September 2023, it seemed like you were not gonna keep using Unity if you could avoid it.
So was just surprised.
I'm surprised. This looks like Unity? I thought you had stopped making stuff for Unity. Did something change your mind?
I wish I could bottle your way of thinking in Gamedev and just drink to get better gamedev superpowers.
Right, but let's not forget that PUBG was trumped by Fortnite due to BETTER EXECUTION. More accessible, more contained, better developed. You keep saying "Execution isn't king because I said so" like some sort of arbiter. We are at an impasse here.
This reminds of the pizza places you can find which has 1/5 star reviews an 5 star reviews that are polar opposite experiences.
I don't understand how your blanket statement is different from mine? Execution is still king with puzzle games. I don't see how those games should be any different from any other games and the important of good execution.
Okay, but then perhaps your original point wasn't clear? This reads very different from what I addressed. Execution is still king, not the idea itself, as you claimed.
Well sure, it's all about whether you want to take that gamble or not.
The other way around..? No. Absolutely not. Execution is still what you need to be good at in the end, regardless of the idea. That balance didn't change.
