For only $5 million, I will disrupt the establishment orthodoxy which has lied to you for years about not being able to divide a number by zero.

This is very very big. Like a big deal and massive cuts. These can’t even be seen as budgetary since you don’t get much savings in the context of trillions budget. They want the US out of R&D out of science research.
The U.S. Forest Service is closing 57 of its 77 research facilities in 31 states under a reorganization plan announced this week, threatening science that looked at how wildfires, drought, pests and global warming are putting pressure on forests.
In any other day and age, this would be an earth shattering story. Because of Trump, it barely registers.

@artsteinberg-pft.bsky.social: "Our armed forces have been deployed to a war that few Americans support & that is costing us billions. Here in Philly, city officials are again moving to close public schools.
"Why is there always money for war but never enough for public schools?" #NoWar #NoKings

I had an academic grant writing joke, but the government illegally clawed it back.
#AAS2026 explore the historical & contemporary struggles of Dalits for dignity, self-respect, & social transformation in modern India.
Building on the intellectual legacy of B. R. Ambedkar, tinyurl.com/mv26f526 highlights how Dalit movements challenged caste hierarchy.

A post from Yoni Appelbaum that reads "Albuquerque turned a wall of its airport bookshop over to its local university press, and goddamn, now I want this in every airport." The post includes a photo of a wall of books with a sign that says University of New Mexico Press.
I usually avoid posting things from the other place but I will make an exception because this is so damn cool. @yappelbaum.bsky.social
I believe this means Doc Rivers has joined more public statements calling for the defense of higher education against the Trump Administration than has the President of the University of Chicago.

This completely misunderstands the research process including the point of doing literature reviews. Claude’s “analysis” treats research as paint by numbers regurgitation of pre-existing work.
Kustov & folks who share these views need to give up their jobs in favor of those who want to research.
Call me a raving radical but I literally do not care whether your imperialist massacre of children is “constitutional” or not.
The increasingly nonsensical invocation of decolonization (when often people just mean democratization) in western academia piqued me so much I designed and have taught an entire class because of it for years lol.
Do you think this is the first time Bartolome de las Casas has been labeled part of the "woke mob"?
The National Museum of Asian Art is returning three bronzes to the Indian government after extensive provenance research indicated that the objects were removed from their original sites illegally. https://wapo.st/4pY1tpr
I want to say a bit more about our initiative to hire scholars to 3yr Research Associate positions.
None of us know what the twinning of humanities research support and employment will look like in another 5(?) years. But we do know that we need it. As a matter of social and cultural health. 1/

STATEMENT REGARDING DETENTION OF STANDING ROCK SIOUX TRIBE MEMBER IN MINNESOTA JANUARY 24, 2026 I was notified today, January 24, 2026, that a Standing Rock Sioux Tribe member has been detained by the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the state of Minnesota. Tribal leadership is actively working to locate the individual, gather accurate information, and coordinate with the appropriate authorities to secure their release. At this time, details surrounding the detention remain limited. I urge the public to refrain from spreading unverified information while this matter is being reviewed. Standing Rock Sioux Tribe will continue to advocate for the protection of our citizen's rights and will provide updates as appropriate.
ICE has kidnapped another Indigenous person in Minneapolis. This is the fifth member of the Očhéthi Šakówinnto be taken this month.
Statement from Standing Rock:
Pick.
A.
Side.
If you turn away from what's happening and have ANY political power, you've made your choice.
You're supporting the killing and kidnapping of innocent people.
And people around the US -- and the world -- are bearing witness.
From this moment forward (and before, but clearly now):
-If you work for ICE.
-If you vote for money for ICE.
You are complicit. This is the gestapo. You're on the wrong side. You can't pretend not to know.
