Telegraph newspaper editorial on Mandelson's appointment in December 2024 versus editorial today
Veterans protesting the Iran War:
A friend in tech, when asked why tech firms are firing engineers in favor of AI, suffering calamities when AI does something crazy that's not caught by engineers, then rehiring the engineers:
"Managements reason in much the same way AI's do. They don't think, just complete thoughts plausibly."
So how did they get Trump out of that important briefing?

UNSUNG HERO: Iris Long was an unlikely AIDS activist. A married chemist from Queens, she barely knew any gay people. She joined ACT UP to use her expertise to fight for treatments. May her memory be a blessing.

“One sometimes gets the impression that the mere words ‘Socialism’ and ‘Communism’ draw towards them with magnetic force every fruit-juice drinker, nudist, sandal-wearer, sex-maniac, Quaker, ‘Nature Cure’ quack, pacifist, and feminist in England.”
Pope: [moral critique of illegal war]
President: I am Jesus. Thr pope is gay
Media: they are feuding😳
Hwæt!
Why don’t you ask your toaster oven what it thinks about Six-Day War?
As with yesterday’s lurid BBC allegations about people falsely claiming to be gay, the problem isn’t whether possible fraud ought to be investigated but the complete paucity of evidence that this is a major issue, in comparison to the up-to-11 volume given to it by our national broadcaster 8/
The complete lack of any critical thinking regarding rate of incidence is infuriating. The fact that fraud happens doesn’t mean everything is fraud, but these articles sure as hell try to sell it that way.
2 Qs that arise from BBC "lying migrants" stuff are (1) if the asylum system is unjust, is it wrong for applicants to lie? & (2) is system set up so people genuinely deserving of protection are forced to lie to get it? Raising such Qs is a political non-starter, but they still matter morally.
And relatedly (3) depending on answers to 1 and 2, it may be permissible or even praiseworthy to coach people to get asylum, just as it was good in former times that people helped others to engage in deception to escape Nazi or Stalinist tyranny.
United States Ambassador To Italy Mrs Clare Boothe Luce Listens To The Words Of Pope Pius Xii,During An Audience At The Pontiff'S Lakeside Summer Residence.13 October 1955
American conservative politician Clare Boothe Luce converted to Catholicism in 1946.
In a 1953 meeting with Pope Pius XII, she was fiercely lecturing the pontiff on the Church's moral duty to fight communism when the Pope finally interrupted her.
"You know, Mrs. Ambassador, I am a Catholic too."
The #AMOC by 2100 will thus be so weak (~8 Sv) that it is very likely on the way to full shutdown, as our study last year showed: iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1...
In my view, this now makes a full #AMOC shutdown more likely than not. Definitely not a low likelihood risk, as we used to think.
At Pentagon worship service today, Pete Hegseth again read a violent prayer to bless the Iran war. But this time his prayer was apparently borrowed from 'Pulp Fiction.' I promise I'm not writing for @theonion.com now:

The BBC is cutting up to 2,000 jobs, or 1 in 10, because of financial pressures. We will get a worse service, and the public sphere will be worse off as a result, which will be music to the ears of tech companies and billionaire press barons. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
