Ouch π we didn't get to that point yet, temperature isn't that low, just the constant rain.
If so we are stuck in this together π I miss when the sky was blue and I could actually dry my clothes. We had one single dry day this year, it was glorious!
I find it amazing how these people are "anti-woke" (whatever that means) and then idolize games and creators that are clearly "woke" by their definition. But they just twist and misunderstand the messages in the games to appease their world view. π€¦ββοΈ
Lesson learned too late in my career: don't join companies without transparent salary bands, clear guidelines on performance reviews, and career ladder.
Nothing kills your drive more than knowing you are making 20% less than your peers at same level because you didn't haggle your entry salary.
I prefer the second π₯
This whole thing with the LLM "creating a browser" is that we are back at number of LOC as metric of quality like the 80s, and the pundits are saying at the same time it is "surprising usable" in their posts, but then in the replies (less views) say it "couldn't render a single page".
Really proud we are part of this project and we are all better for it! πͺπΊ
I think one thing that they do better is to care. As in, the company knows they are just one competitor away from "losing" and the users are young and want shiny things. Slack is...well, Salesforce.
I feel the opposite, Slack can be a bit slow - it's better in Mac than Win - but the tooling is soo much better. My old job used Discord, just the whole thing of not having reminders, delayed messages, almost no native integrations from 3rd parties, took time to get used to.
This is such a cool concept, and it's beautiful!
I'm happy you enjoyed Algarve, which for many of us us locals feels like as a whole it is just British quarters, but we forgive it for its great seafood, people, and calm seas. ποΈ
That was a cool read, thank you for sharing. Looking forward to more of these flashes! βοΈ
Screenshot from Claude Desktop where I asked: "And shouldn't I be comparing the keys in api key in constant time?", to which Claude responded: "Yes, absolutely! You should use constant-time comparison to prevent timing attacks. Here's the updated method:"
Exhibit #1 on why AI can't really replace a seasoned developer: every time it needs to compare strings for authentication it fails to do it in constant-time to avoid timing attacks. I always have to correct it.
To me it seems like a kind of FOMO of having moved away but still wanting to be there. But if you took a stance on leaving that hell hole, who cares what they are doing? Let it burn. π€·ββοΈ
Hacker News and open-source: "I wish I was paid for my open source work, I deserve it"
TailwindLabs trying to make a business on top of open source: "Laid off workers? Serves them right for trying to make money on open source"
Someone explain this to me like I'm stupid.
"When everyone's optimizing for the algorithm, originality gives way to mimicry, and what's left is mediocrity."
That's a perfect explanation of how I am seeing feeds lately and creators I follow having to "lose their voice" to not be ignored by the algorithm.
I see that so much in the startup world. People look at some founder that now spends a couple hours a day in their company and it sounds great, but they forget the years of crunching and the sacrifices to get to that point. You can't go into cruise control without those acceleration years.
This is so alien to me. Here (Portugal) it's a max of 120 months for new or 84 for used car, and the max of total loans including mortgage or rent can't be more than 35% of household liquid income. It's nuts how predatory the whole thing is over there.
That is such a cool design. π
Thank you so much for all your work! π I love reading through these, and always learn something new I missed from the release changelog.
Here it wasn't really a "free roam" because we spent November voting and prioritizing what is blocking new features or annoying us in the DX side of things. Then December we tackled that curated list, while keeping the regular bug watching duties as usual, but without new features from the roadmap.
Definitely. At $current_job we took the whole of December this year to do upgrades and refactors, because it's our lowest traffic month, and this paved the way for the new features in 2026. It's a tricky balance, as you said in the blog post, but sometimes you just have to commit to it.
This is one of the reasons I like working in work sprints that have a cooldown period, where we can ship reliably on specific deadlines, but have some time to refactor/upgrade/improve that isn't directly tied to business outcomes. Really helps with keeping it at the right tension.
It's a still a win, and worth celebrating. π When the world is so scary for them small steps like these are huge.
So well deserved! Thank you for all your contributions to our ecosystem. π
And I think even Meta is starting to limit reach of unverified account, so that pressure will show up soon enough. While in dating apps it seems to have been more to protect the users organically and the pressure is from your peers, not as top-down.
I am not opposed to it, it's just that the notification is not selling it well. It shows me a good thing then asks me to do something that adds friction without explaining the benefits. So I doubt most people would go through it without a better incentive.
But that also means giving my details to another 3rd party increasing my chances of having it leaked just like it happened with Discord recently.
So there's so far very little incentive to do it if I still can access everything and be shown to others. I guess that may change in the future.
LinkedIn notification saying: You have one of the most-viewed profiles. Add verification to boost trust.
I don't think this notification works the way the people behind it wanted, at least for me if I have one of the most viewed profiles without being verified, what is the incentive in getting verified? π€
we don't need to get involved in the "our agent has the best tricks" game
we'll just wait - most ideas that seem good are not very good
and any that are we'll add a month later - ty for doing the work nerds
