Play as the vampire Circe or the hellhound Dante in this supernatural neon-noir romance visual novel.
Solve crimes, steal hearts, and resist (or embrace) the darkness within...

Here is an example tutorial I think is quite well made with some handy visuals: bast13.itch.io/renpy-layere...
My vns these days tend to take heavy advantage of RenPys layeredimage system, with separated elements to easily combine into a lot of expressions. But for a starter project I'd recommend about 5 facial expressions to get started - you can always add more as you implement the script and see gaps!
I would put a vote in for Anora, just to have an opportunity to take advantage of the ability to make miis related to each other. (And doting dad Loghain-mii appeals to me personally XD)
Also remembering now that I once made a script called 'RegionZone' because we already had Zones but I needed Zones specific to 'Regions' and it haunts me to this day... the ThingDoer of my youth
In Paleo we had 2 different sets of UI/code for 'pop up that lets you add and remove items' that looked and did functionally the same thing, I wish the programmer who did the second just ripped mine out! We had to edit 2 different things!
My baby programmer advice:
1) do not make your code too generic before you have to. ThingDoer the Everything Script is evil and should be destroyed.
2) If you realise you're implementing a feature similar to an existing one, do not be precious about other peoples code, rip it out, make it generic-er
π± #nanoreno2026 game jam COMPLETE!
Made a demo for Check Mates, a #chess based visual novel.
Poured so much energy in and really pleased. Feeling like it could maybe be a full game. Sprites, cutscenes, code, writing, narrative, game design by me!

I'd be interested π (Though not very knowledgeable about chess)

Ooo, do let me know if you have any recommendations, I'll probably be hopping around for the first while!
A paperback copy of The Game Narrative Kaleidoscope, a collection of 100+ essays on the craft of game writing.
My copy finally arrived! So excited to dig in.
Not all, you play as Bonnie (she/her), with two romance options: Ronan (he/him, the blue one) and Gigi (she/her, the red one) who are bisexual and lesbian respectively! You can romance one, both or neither in a given playthrough.
Thank you, it was a joy to implement as well! (And I've loved seeing your nanoreno project come together. Great to see more irish renpy devs!)
And I'll share some silly renpy ATL work for my ego too XD
Next big visual novel project is starting to come together~
@squirrelcurls.bsky.social 's beautiful art is not done any justice by my low quality gifs π₯Ί

Ooo I'm taking notes for future updates, and maybe I'll port mine over to something more common like unity with a visual editor some day!
I recently released some code for a simple picross setup in Ren'Py - it's missing a few features, but I'd be happy to tidy it up from suggestions if it's useful to anyone - I really enjoyed Murder by Numbers! naoimh-murchan.itch.io/renpy-miniga...
My #MVNA project is released! It comes with many art assets by wonderful artists to make immersive particle effects right away. I spent far too much time adding all sorts of movement options and customization to it, so it would mean a lot if you checked it out!

Ah I forgot to tag it over here in this thread, oopsie! Hopefully its useful to you, and lemme know if you have any more suggestions! I'm always happy to help β€οΈ
Demoing Spill the Beans at Rendr tonight! Anyone attending feel free to swing by, say hi and give the game a try~
(Why yes, I did incorrectly enter my own name for the lanyard xD)
I have started on this little map exploration thing, with a mask for blocking movement, but I'm not entirely sure how to best showcase it as a minigame... for now I'm just going to focus on item pickups & jumping to labels, but I would welcome suggestions to make it more 'gamey'/featureful XD
Finally got time to finish up my MVNA entry for 2 Renpy minigames... still got the minigame itch though, hopefully I can add a few more simple ones over the next few months.
For now, Picross and Memory Match are in there!

So cute!
I do have a jigsaw wip that would fit this actually, thanks for the input! (And for everything you do for the community!)
Ooo a fantastic idea, thank you!
Any Renpy devs who see this, what minigames do you wish there was free code for? Contemplating what to do for MVNA this year π€
Welcome back! hope you're feeling better, can't wait to see what you cook up this year!
