I actually know a bunch of Brazilians in Canada who do exactly that. The headache of going through immigration processes make them excellent immigration consultants. I was told several times that I should become one too. I would certainly not be living on a basement now if I took that advice. 😂😭
Always enjoy @philmoscovitch.bsky.social's clear-eyed reporting on AI and was inspired to revisit the public consultation survey on AI from October.
There's a report out now!
And I have Notes!
A full disc image of Earth, as seen from the Orion Crew Module. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. At lower left, a large brown landmass is Africa, with Spain and Portugal with twinkling lights where the planet curves. At top right, auroras glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space (pic: NASA/R.Wiseman)
More context on this #Artemis II image:
* This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right
* The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon:

The Stockholm archipelago in Sweden is lit up in a golden bath of sunlight, with a mysterious mist hanging low in front of the silhouetted island. The water shimmers like a glowing, rippling mirror. The use of archipelago photography in PKP's newsletter represents the distributed yet connected nature of free and open source software as well as open access communities. The photo was taken by PKP's Jason Nugent on his travels.

Raffi Krikorian's piece in The Atlantic piece digs into what happens when automated systems lull us into trust, then fail in the split second when it matters most.

I've been coming across so many great open science initiatives in other fields that I wanted to take a moment to highlight some of the efforts happening in the Education Sciences.

Mixed feelings of loving Mozilla for implementing a quick toggle on and off for AI on Firefox, but also hating that they've put AI on the browser in the first place.
I'm reviewing a PhD candidate's comprehensive exam manuscript for tomorrow (I'm late! I know!) and
1. I can't believe people delegate that to LLMs nowadays - it's so much fun!
2. It feels outdated to ask students to go through qualifying exams and hand over a PDF for evaluation in 2026.
The wonders of metabolism! Here we have breakfast very often around noon and lunch anytime between 6pm and 11pm (!!!), and still hubs need one/two snacks before 2am. It’s wild in here!
Exhausting! I hope at least people will take the chance to ask all the questions that *I* have to you about the 3pm dinner as a night owl and idk get me a report?
That sounds equal parts exciting and scary! YAY!
I also feel nervous with job-related gatherings longer than a workday, it’s like my outie bleeds into my innie 😂

"then tried to convince me that I wanted to solve a different problem"
Laughing way harder than I am allowed to.
I’m glad that was a happy ending! I love a good tax story with a happy ending.
Happy Love Data Week!
