NASA might have been the coolest organization on planet earth — a real life/larger than life organization that the smartest people in the world respected, kids dreamed their whole life of working for, & even Hollywood couldn’t make larger than it already was.
So of course Trump ruined it in a year.

Trump is saying a different thing every time someone asks him because his brain is fucking melting and he can't hold the same thought for more than a few moments at a time. Being manipulated by whoever the last person he spoke to was. It's really not more complicated than that.
Back to back, two top Biden officials openly admit Israel is exempt from law:
Jake Sullivan: US calls Russian strikes “war crimes,” but not Israeli ones, because they’re not as hard on “friends”
Antony Blinken: US could’ve cut weapons to Israel, but it would’ve just continued razing Gaza anyways
There are so many red flags and legitimate concerns about Flock cameras - privacy, due process, data sharing with ICE. But of course our councilmember doesn’t care too much about any of that. LA needs to cut ties with big tech surveillance companies like Flock.
Members of Contract Faculty United, a @uaw.org local at NYU, have won a tentative deal for their first contract that includes—
✅ 95% of members will get >$100,000
✅ Lowest-ranked faculty will get $91,000
✅ Every member will get a raise of ≥$14,000 starting the next academic year

New on Knock: While cities across the country have rejected Flock and other surveillance companies, Traci Park has begun to install 100 automated license plate readers across CD11.

I want every word of this in massive letters of fire in the sky. Thank you, @moryan.bsky.social.
Folks get in trouble because they think they have to decide what will *resonate* with working-class people [always treated as a monolith, by the way].
Unless you are a political operative, you really don't have to do this and political operatives mostly aren't good at this either.
The officer who killed Ruben Ray Martinez has been identified as Homeland Security Investigations agent Jack Stevens.

Lots of teargas at ICE tonight in Portland. People were just standing and chanting.
Lots of teargas and smoke
Lots of teargas and smoke
A few hundred people arrived to the Portland ICE facility a few hours ago, marching in remembrance of all killed at the hands of ICE. The energy was high, for over an hour the feds would randomly shoot pepper balls. And then they came out and heavily gassed
Here's my full 50-page indictment of CBP and ICE and decades of corruption, abuse of force, racism, and misogyny. I promise you — however bad you've ever thought it was, the full reality is even worse, deadlier, and more corrupt. This isn't a "Trump only" phenomenon:
Really brings home the fact that the delay in producing files was absolutely part of an effort to protect Trump versus the DOJ's oft-touted explanation that they were ensuring protection for victims.
24 hours later: Trump has two journalists arrested
Looking forward to it!
“There was a car seat in the back with one of those baby blankets you get at the hospital. There were broken glass shards all over it,” he said. “I carefully pulled back the blanket and there was just this tiny peanut of a baby. He was crying.” www.pressherald.com/2026/01/28/i...
People are over-reading this. The judge dismissed the *federal* murder charges because his (alleged) actions didn’t fit within federal law. He still faces *state* murder charges because it’s usually a state crime. The feds stepped in because they were mad NY doesn’t have the death penalty.
In solidarity with all those standing up for our communities against the brutality of immigrant detention and ICE occupation, we're offering free ebooks of three crucial books about migrant justice and border abolition.
Again, new work requirements for Medicaid highlight the profits to be made from adding complexity to the safety net. Since Georgia implemented work requirements in 2020, they have spent twice as much on Deloitte consultants and administrative costs as on healthcare for people. As the other 55 states and territories are now forced to join Georgia and implement new work requirements, millions will lose their healthcare and Deloitte will cash in.

this is a small thing but it would be nice to feel good about paying taxes. i would like to write a check to the government and think about kids going to school and freshly paved roads not all the death squads my income helps fund.
The man killed by ICE was Alex Pretti, a 37-year old Minneapolis resident, UMN graduate, and licensed nurse.
The Star Tribune with information we know at the moment: www.startribune.com/ice-raids-mi...
NYT: Federal Agents Kill a 37-Year-Old Minneapolis Man The victim was an American citizen with no criminal record who had a firearms permit, the city police chief said. Videos of the encounter contradict the federal government's description of the shooting, a New York Times analysis found.
