"The leader of [insert organization] can *only* issue un-enforcable platitudes gesturing at equality." Seems to be prevalent position among anyone not hard-left, and no-one seems to think this is telling on themselves? Crazy-making.

The whole time watching Wrath of Khan I was thinking, “The Motion Picture is crazy underrated, I don’t see why this is so much better,” and then I hit the last few scenes. Even knowing what was coming, I cried. TMP still underrated but okay Wrath of Khan good.

My pet peeve is the spoon thing. First time I heard it I asked so many variations of “but why would that be the metaphor” that my friend had to change the subject. It’s impossible for me to imagine finding it helpful.

It’s a good movie! Spock gets so many gorgeous lines and moments too. He was always full of incredible aphorisms but you really feel him as a newly introspective version of himself in that one

Trump can promise to nuke Iran and the IDF can openly riot about their right to rape people but I have to be coy if I want to say the only truth that matters about any of these parasites. I wrote this today in a different context but it fits here, everywhere.

Not just autism content! I often think about that huge “new etiquette rules” piece from The Cut a few years ago where it felt like half of it was just variations on “be chill and fun by having a lot of money, poor people are a fucking drag”

I’ve only seen TOS but it’s depressing to me that the two repeated responses I’ve seen to the “what would you do with Trek” prompt are “remake TOS” (it’s still right there and it’s great) and “cop show” (disgusting). Just utterly poisoned imaginations on some people

Billy: THAT WAS AN EPSTEIN PARTY?! YOU TOOK US TO AN EPSTEIN PARTY?! WE'RE ON THE LIST?!
Pete: New low, Rus. Even for you.
Rusty (not knowing about all the pedophile stuff): What? It was a good networking opportunity!

Yeah I like that episode and a lot of my affection for it comes down to that performance

I don’t remember if it’s in the film or in some bonus material I watched but detailing Little Edie’s feelings toward one of the Maysles felt like it crossed some kind of line to me

I’ve been told several times that I simply *must* watch that parody but given the way that movie sits in my heart I can’t imagine enjoying any parody. I feel strangely protective of them, and that does involve some mixed feelings about the original film too

Modelo Chelada Limon y Sal: delicious, refreshing, fit for the lips of angels

Modelo Chelada Negra: starts okay, kinda turns gross as you go

every other Modelo Chelada flavor: worse than you can imagine, worse than I thought possible, just a true abomination

Yes the problem here is that your mind is pretty stupid

Which is to say, yeah opting out is valid. It’s maybe even debatable to me whether a sense of obligation is ever a great primary reason to engage with a piece of art, but for something that will take like 30 hours of your precious free time? Like you could watch Tarkovsky’s whole filmography instead

Honestly as an outsider to the genre it is wild to think about playing any RPG without great confidence I will love it. Like it maybe doesn’t seem this way from the inside but that’s just a crazy amount of time compared to a movie or album or even a sizable portion of the books that interest me

I am dead convinced they believe this because they take all their futurism cues from TV shows, where characters talk to the computer so that what they’re doing is legible to the audience, because it’s a dramatic presentation.

Incredibly funny how many people saw “confidently stupid turbolib” and thought “hey that’s me”

I have been guilty of making and laughing at these kinds of jokes but progressives really need enforce a taboo against making fun of people’s appearances even when those people are evil

I once tried to explain my views on children’s rights and one guy was immediately like “But what if someone disagrees??”

Uhh they can stuff it? Everyone who wants to do shitty things to other people believes it is their right to do so. We’re not required to listen when they happen to be parents

There are so many ways society views children as property, right down to “if it’s yours you’re allowed to destroy it”

“… a lot of people approach new art as if they’re going into battle, and they can’t let the art win – from jump, they’re looking for reasons to be mad at it, to declare victory over it, as though they’ve diagnosed The Thing That Makes It Objectively Bad and there’s nothing more to discuss.”

A friend in Cuba just notified me that every single patient in that hospital that was on ventilators died tonight. I don't have words.

There's something supremely saddening and enraging about seeing a hospital running on bare minimum power. Thinking about dialysis patients, babies in NICU, and others tonight in Cuba. This is a blockade of death.

What the US is purposefully doing to Cuba should be considered genocide.
