Mets Fans Deserve This If you were there for Ángel Pagán trade, this is your moment

If you remember offseasons of John Rauch and Frank Francisco, Mets fans, this moment is for you.

I remember one random night in winter 2011 or 2012, listening to Steve Somers on a transistor radio and hoping in vain someone would call in to talk about the Mets — we deserve this one.

An MLB team should hire Elizabeth Prelogar as manager — she could persuade an umpire to change any call she wanted!

I'm good with all the new rules so far but this is completely whackadoodle.

Imagine if in soccer you could choose a random moment to take a penalty kick. Or if in football you could choose one drive a game to start on the one-yard line.

Too much.

"Juan Soto has agreed to a 14-year, $700 contract with the Mets. He has further agreed to donate $1 million a year to the Braves Foundation."

I think as a bit, every new free agent contract, regardless of the team awarding it, should include a donation to the Braves Foundation

Luxury tax is calculated by AAV, not actual year-by-year salaries -- same with Ohtani's deal, the deferrals aren't some sort of magic button that makes his salary disappear from the tax books

He'll earn roughly $1 for every full count he reaches over the life of the contract

Because McCarthy is a lot better, cheaper, and has many more years left of team control — I think McCarthy is much more valuable that Marte at this point of his career, so I’d much rather have McCarthy; no need to make things overly complicated.

Marte can definitely be unloaded if the Mets send enough cash — he can still hit and he’s got a great arm, there are teams that would take him if they didn’t have to pay much.

McCarthy is better than both of them and probably better than Marte, and Bader is also gone — I would much prefer to unload Taylor and Marte and have McCarthy in center, with Nimmo on one side along with whatever outfielder may be available on the other.

I have a longstanding grievance with the Mets never going out and getting the kind of toolsy guys that I love, so very much hoping for a change here.

Puts the ball in play, spectacular glove, one of the fastest guys in the majors…go get him!

#bob says Jake McCarthy is available, and I would love the Mets to make a run at him.

My take on Abreu is that he’s not not a Hall of Famer because he was the best (although he was really good) — he’s a Hall of Famer because he was *unique.*

In terms of combined power/on base/base-stealing threats, he’s top 10 (maybe top 5) all-time.

Eric Orze is Not Your Enemy He plays for the Mets — and he can't help it

With Eric Orze headed out of town, a good time to remember the time I wrote about Orze, boos, and “Amadeus.”

Bobby Abreu, the Hall of Fame, and Round-Number Bias Abreu’s career numbers are inches from superstardom — but they’re a tad below that, so he gets completely forgotten.

I’ve been on this train for years

With the ballot unveiled, it's officially, "Let's Get Bobby Abreu into the Hall of Fame" season for me! Let's start with old-school numbers:

Players with at least 1000 runs scored, 1000 RBI, 1000 BB, 250 HRs, 400 SBs, 500 doubles and a batting average of no less than .290:

Barry Bonds.
Bob Abreu.

This is a good first Jets game on BlueSky — everyone should learn the lesson that the Jets aren't playing football, they're doing long-form experimental surrealist comedy

Aaron Rodgers seems determined to force us to replace “Willie Mays falling down in the outfield” as the go-to for describing athletes who stayed too long at the ball.

I think the ‘25 broadcast would be well-served with some shots inspired by the Samuel L. Jackson-narrated Hugo Stiglitz backstory
