How many does he have so far?

6 months ago 8 0 2 0

Yeah, but if I found someone was pre-populating the field with [(language, 0) for language in ALL_LANGUAGES] I'd be pretty pissed

The field isn't an Optional<Language>, it's a List<Tuple<Language, FluencyLevel>>

Yeah, but the language he doesn't speak is English

You have to offer to tip them, that's a proven results-getter

The dad that stepped up would have to also be a dog, otherwise it doesn't make any sense

I read the blog post in the normal way for everyday cool people (Feedly), then came looking for the tweet so I could contribute!

If you give me like one minute, I'm sure I can figure out how to post the slow-mo mug explosion video on this normal social media platform here

Bluesky isn't going to replace Twitter, because it doesn't really seem to want to.

Why is this app not even giving me push notifications?

Cross-instance DMs and circles aren't coming.

I love this paper. It manages to establish a causal link using a set of very indirect associations, which means the underlying effect must be strong.

We need cigarette-style regulations requiring the caffeine content in big, black and white numbers on the side of everything. Not because it's that dangerous, but people need to know.

EXT. DAY, MUSK'S SHOVEL EMPORIUM

ELON MUSK: These gold miners are buying up all of my shovels, and more arrive on the train every day! What to do? All I have left in the world is this pile of wooden sticks, a hundred steel ingots, and a standing order with the blacksmith!

I really admire the confidence of the people using different profile pictures here than on Twitter. They worked their way up from the mailroom once, they know they can do it again.

I've seen a few day changes go wrong, but now that I think about it, always in the other direction - I'd get a bunch of "friend posted late" notifications a few minutes before "it's time to be real", and the timeline would show new posts as yesterday's lates. Hasn't happened for a long time, though.

Oh, you're right, all the ones I see today are abroad, that makes sense. I guess I don't have any friends that post regularly from elsewhere.

Large social networking apps aren't easy to make, it turns out, all those people have jobs for a reason.

Even now, after a year of infrastructure work, BeReal's day roll isn't reliable - I see some posts on my feed today that are definitely yesterday's.

I think if they don't worry too much about the federation stuff and just scale up the main instance it could be fine. Still depends on Twitter fully squandering their network effects, though, which is hard to do.
