Is it not now obvious to all that, with dictator Trump, the USA has become a ‘police state’? … a great deal of hope is being placed in the mud-terms later this year… I’m more of the view that the big orange one may cynically declare martial law or some such thereby cancelling all elections …

So Texas legislators have decided to make the display of the 10 commandments in every school in the state; the constitution clearly calls for the total separation of church and state. How can they get away with this inane nonsense?

While we marvel at the courage and integrity of President Zelenskyy, we can but weep at the outrageous, abusive, bullying of Trump and his yes-men.

PLEASE EXPLAIN; why is almost EVERY post referring to ‘social compassion’, ‘wealth/income inequality’, ‘historical wrongdoing’, ‘vile evils of slavery’, ‘separation of church & state’, ‘misogyny’, ‘racism’ etc., ALWAYS highlighted as, ‘WOKE?’
These are all basic truths of modern civil society.

Spot on! The benefits of living in a ‘social’ democracy where one of the basic tenets is ‘compassion’… a word that neo-liberalist, greed-driven capitalism have erased from the lexicon … as in your lower neighbours, both geographically and morally.

When I reflect on the result of the US election I mentally weep at the change in the mindset of one of once greatest countries on the planet, I recall with a slight smirk, the profound words of de Maistre;
‘Every country has the government it deserves.’
