Tomorrow is Patriots' Day in Massachusetts, which means it's a good time to roll out this all-timer from our archives.

drought conditions *in Virginia* *in April*, but sure, let's build huge data centers
I do not want to create an account or open a subscription I just want to buy a thing and never hear from you again why is this so hard.

One reason this might be happening is that the obvious places where we could hire more people would be various public sector/interest and government-services jobs (that includes things like grants for science and the arts, along w/stuff like mass transit). That would require more taxes though.
It is WILD to me that cars are born with a way to communicate with one another when we turn yet every day people climb into their vehicles and say “nah, driving is jazz, it’s about the signals you DON’T use.”
Every U.S. data map ever made
Every second he's in office is more embarrassing, more destructive and more dangerous than the last.

Things that help calm the nervous system, quickly:
- Box breathing (in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for 4, repeat)
- Immerse your face in cold water (activates mammalian dive reflex)
- Humming (stimulates vagus nerve)
- Exercise (anything helps, outside even better)
- Impeachment and removal
I really wish I had congressional representation. Like 350 million of the rest of you do.

AOC: “This is a threat of genocide & merits removal from office. The President’s mental faculties are collapsing & cannot be trusted.
To every individual in the President’s chain of command: You have a duty to refuse illegal orders. That includes carrying out this threat”
When you think about how the media covered Biden’s mental acuity and then see this, you really see how horrible things are and have been and will continue to be.
We know they are indecent and power hungry and fine with being complicit. But to see them all shrug while the president does some kind of weird, war crime riddled social media negotiations, is a horror. No one’s going to stop him? Not enough self-preservation to step in?
I simply can’t believe Congress and the cabinet are sitting around, totally fine with what is absolutely demented behavior from the president.
I ate your PLUMS and I cannot lie
I'm guilty and I won't deny
That when I found them kept in a pretty chilly place
yeah I put them in my face
and man, YUM, couldn't have enough
'Cause you know that my tum is stuffed,
But you were breakfast saving,
Your forgiveness now I'm craving
A full disc image of Earth, as seen from the Orion Crew Module. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. At lower left, a large brown landmass is Africa, with Spain and Portugal with twinkling lights where the planet curves. At top right, auroras glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space (pic: NASA/R.Wiseman)
More context on this #Artemis II image:
* This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right
* The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon:

In Austin, Waymo robotaxis keep driving past stopped school buses with their lights flashing.
The school district bent over backwards to help Waymo fix the problem. Nothing worked, and Waymo won't comment.
Doesn't exactly fill you with confidence about AV safety.

We went to an oil museum (and onto a former offshore rig structure), the Tabasco factory, and a former plantation. (I grew up in Louisiana.)

“Every $1,300 New York City invested in building bike lanes in 2015 provided benefits equivalent to one additional year of life at full health over the lifetime of all city residents, according to a new economic assessment.”
That’s a better return on investment than some direct health treatments…”
One of the busiest stations for Metro, two different commuter rail services, and Amtrak’s entire eastern corrridor, and this fucking grifter closes the whole place during rush hour. just adding insult to the many injuries of this administration
A 2x2 picture grid showing the progression of lantana blooms from greenish yellow tightly wrapped corolla tubes to fully open deep red and orange flowers. 1. Before opening they look like little rectangular presents ready to be unwrapped, just a blush of pink indicating the vibrance to come. 2. The tubes are still wrapped up tight but elongating and growing much more colorful. 3. The outer tubes have opened, a mix of red and orange, the center flowers still closed 4. All flowers open, color extremely vibrant. A spherical floral planetoid

This whole ‘there are cherry blossoms’ in neighborhoods and not just the tidal basin always cracks me up. YES! The awesome Casey Trees even has a map!
As Paris elected a new mayor today who literally biked to his victory speech on the city’s bike infrastructure network, it’s hard not to feel like things are going in the opposite direction in the US capital
It would've been reckless and inexcusable to cause generational damage by illegally defunding USAID, NIH, HHS, Dept of Edu, and so on just to reduce the deficit...
... but spending and the deficit are both higher than '22, '23, '24. It was all just harm for harm's sake. The cruelty was the point.
A great overview of the changes Paris has undergone over the past decade ⬇️
