How, in the year 2026, does a professional sports league not have automatic centralized, standardized way to gather game data from clubs and auto-update this?
This is basic, basic technology. European and English soccer keeps a live table that updates standings IN REAL TIME. Embarrassing.

Turns out, when you remove all the non-rostered salaries (a la Stephen Strasburg), the Nats position players don't fare any better: 29/30, before only the Marlins and between ~$8-12 million behind the Rays, Guardians, and A's.
A pipe dream? Probably. But I'll keep the torch lit for this.
I've long been a proponent of the lack of salary cap in MLB (give the money back to the workers!!!), but the disparity is getting out of hand.
Ideally, a new CBA will implement a salary floor to make teams like the Nats and Pirates either spend more or sell to someone who will.
