I’m picturing some official scorer-type after an MLS game running around with an index card shouting “how many touches did Messi have today guys?! I have to fax my card in before the 11:59 deadline or they won’t update stats again!!!”

How, in the year 2026, does a professional sports league not have automatic centralized, standardized way to gather game data from clubs and auto-update this?

This is basic, basic technology. European and English soccer keeps a live table that updates standings IN REAL TIME. Embarrassing.

The Nats fundamentals have really not shown up well for some of these guys this series so far…

Turns out, when you remove all the non-rostered salaries (a la Stephen Strasburg), the Nats position players don't fare any better: 29/30, before only the Marlins and between ~$8-12 million behind the Rays, Guardians, and A's.

A pipe dream? Probably. But I'll keep the torch lit for this.

I've long been a proponent of the lack of salary cap in MLB (give the money back to the workers!!!), but the disparity is getting out of hand.

Ideally, a new CBA will implement a salary floor to make teams like the Nats and Pirates either spend more or sell to someone who will.

Starting pitcher salary ranks:
NL: 15/15
MLB: 28/30, behind the White Sox and Guardians

Relief pitcher salary ranks:
NL: 15/15
MLB: 30/30

Combined:
NL: last
MLB: 29/30, behind Guardians

Some folks seem surprised that the Nats pitching, especially the starters, are as ineffective as they have been this year. I decided to dig into 2026 salaries to see if the money spent on pitchers aligns with the performance.

Spoiler: yes.

Yes, I built it with a combination of LLMs and an LLM is doing the hourly mission summaries. If you’re interested in such things, I published the code.

Artemis II - Live Mission Tracker

I can’t get enough of the Artemis II mission, so I built a website to track it and get milestone updates.

Extremely same. I literally don’t know if I breathed until the external rockets successfully separated.

I am so inspired and so excited to see humans orbit the moon with modern technology. I can’t wait to see what comes next.

I’ve seen Apollo 13 and From the Earth to the Moon more times than I care to admit.

I never thought I’d get to see humans go to the moon in my lifetime, and the successful launch of Artemis II made that a possibility.

I was obsessed with the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs as a kid. I used to pretend I was a command module pilot on road trips up and down the east coast interstates.

I’ve read Jim Lovell’s biography several times about his trips around the moon.
