OPINION: A reminder about the Tongass National Forest - Juneau Empire You cannot talk about Southeast Alaska’s seafood industry without also talking about the Tongass National Forest. The productivity of our region’s sustainable fisheries is heavily dependent on the health of Southeast’s forests and watersheds – the two are inseparable. That’s why it’s alarming to see no mention of Southeast’s commercial fisheries in the U.S. Forest Service’s Notice of Intent to revise its management plan for the Tongass National Forest. Given the Trump Administration’s Executive Order 14276 to restore America’s seafood competitiveness, the Forest Service should align its management of the Tongass with the Administration’s goal to promote our domestic fisheries, including an America First Seafood Strategy.

"Ultimately what we need is for the Forest Service to manage the Tongass so that it maximizes wild fish production and puts fish first." By Linda Behnken, who fishes commercially in Alaska and serves on the Network's Policy Council:

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Silence and Stillness One of the more pleasant aspects of fly-fishing is the quiet — the quiet of the mind that comes from being outdoors.
