The Dishonest Online Campaign to Support Alberta Separatism | The Tyee A research group raises red flags about foreign interference in the province’s independence referendum.

A network of 20 inauthentic YouTube accounts has racked up nearly 40 million views by peddling lies, grievance, division and narratives normalizing the prospect of Alberta’s secession and annexation by the United States. @charlesrusnell.bsky.social reports. #abpoli

The paper chase: How 4 Calgarians made their cities better with bookstores | The Sprawl A trip into Western Canadian book culture.

Four of my favourite bookshops in Western Canada are run by people who grew up in Calgary, though not all of them stayed. I wanted to find out how they got bit by the bookselling bug—and what keeps them going today. So I asked them.

Exposing a global ‘online rape academy’ that is teaching men how to abuse women and evade detection CNN exposes an online network of men encouraging each other to drug and assault their partners, and swap tips on how to get away with it.

There are very good reasons to make men more lonely. Here are 62 million more. (What the fuck is wrong with these men - those that watch and those that perpetuate? Why would you think this was okay to do to your wife or anyone?) Women should stay single, live happy.

A Fine Balance Podcast Episode · Alberta Unbound · S5 E6 · 25m

While we await a little more clarity about these new regulations, to be enforced by Bill 28, might actually work, I thought it timely to repost my recent podcast interview with Pilar Martinez, CEO of the Edmonton Public Library, on free speech and why it matters. #abpoli #yeg #AlbertaUnbound

Every single public library staff person in Alberta worth their salt (and who knows public library history) will stand up against this fascist nonsense of Bill 28 and library inspectors. And any decent public library patron will tell these inspectors to fuck right off if approached.

Trying to help a young mom who was shot twice in the legs while riding in a car. She now lives with serious injuries and trauma. She’s alone in the country with no cell phone or landline. I’m working to get her on AISH, but that will take months.

Does anyone have a spare phone they could donate?

Let us start with books But this is not just about further punishing prisoners. There is a pattern here with the federal budget. Access to knowledge and information is being limited for all

Cuts to federal libraries, archives, and their services are a theme in Budget 2025. The dollar amounts are small, the impact devastating buttondown.com/leftcoastdis...

I’m a card-carrying member of the Alberta Historical Society, and apparently $76,000 is what our government thinks history is worth.

When we defund organizations like this, we lose perspective, diversity of stories, and our understanding of how we got here.

The world is busy watching the big dumpster fires but it’s the small ones around that will become the catastrophe for the individual. Reach out to your community helpers and find ways to support them, lend a hand if you can’t give a dollar. Strengthen and broaden your community to survive the storm.

Promise that you’ll reach out to a hotline, a trusted friend or even to a stranger should you find it to dark to go on. DMs are open on many of your friends list if you need a listening ear. 4/n

Things you’ve said have resonated and some things you’ve said have left me pondering new avenues on the ins and outs of the environment and of farming. That has influenced my work. You matter. You matter to your family, your community and even to those that you’ve never met. 3/

We’ve followed each other for years now across this and the old site. You probably don’t know that I look for your posts. You provide a lovely mix of wise insight, add beauty through your photos, poetry and music, tidbits of history, and your delight in your family. 2/

I can totally understand that it’s been a struggle - you’ve nothing to apologize for - if we are not there ourselves at the moment, then we’ve been there before. I hope you do reach out and bother people &hope you hang on and wait for that brighter day, the world is a better place with you in it. 1/

No love lost over the end of 2025…gonna go eat a nice supper then drink champagne and clean my way into the new year. Maybe stop for a little dance party for one. Here’s hoping 2026 has some wins for the good folks out there, and some wins for the environment.

Yes. And translators, badly paid, have been trying to make people aware of this, but they have only a small platform. Need writers and readers to be aware and speak out.

All my foreign language contracts going forward will stipulate that a real person translates.

Day seventeen of #ArtAdventCalendar

Tonight I’m sharing this painted stone of the Seven Whistlers. Years ago, when people heard the Whistlers flying at night, they thought of it as a bad omen. Sailers would refuse to sail the next day, and miners would avoid the mines.

Original autumn landscape oil painting by Tisha Mark, "Autumn Mini No. 2503" 4"x4" oil on Ampersand Gessobord (2025). The painting shows a dense autumn landscape with a creek running through it. There is bright yellow light in a blue sky, and colors from the sky and trees are reflecting in the creek.
