People seem to believe the Cube Cats were inspired by Kirby because I usually draw them pink.
They were inspired by the Baki from Drawn to Life and the Meows from Super Paper Mario.

This explains why moving particles had a massive impact on performance. I was misusing physics process on something that only updates visually.

Just discovered I completely misunderstood the difference between process & physics process on Godot.

Running logic that happens every frame under physics process is actually worse for performance, even if the physics process rate is lower than real fps.

I've tested GM.DLS with it to decent results.
