Great chance to work with a great team!

The only constant, over time, is the choice of formal greeting. Whereas a talk to a physical audience might involve 'Ladies and Gentleman', online talks and meetings still always begin with the hallowed 'Can you hear me?', to which the standard reply remains 'We can hear you but not see you'.
That's a lovely thing to say @drelizabethmac1.bsky.social ! I only wish I'd met her in person. Funny when you 'discover' someone just that little bit too late to realise how much you have in common (in interest if not talent!).
Xtra thanks in acknowledgements 2 eg @jowolff.bsky.social @rebeccabuxton.bsky.social @lisamherzog.bsky.social @stevenklein.bsky.social @lawrencehamilton.bsky.social @mwojciechowska.bsky.social @wendysalkin.bsky.social @drelizabethmac1.bsky.social @svenjaahlhaus.bsky.social @matthewblongo.bsky.social
New article on PPP! TY to @georgeboss.bsky.social for facilitating & many others for talking 2 me about it, inc. from @ecpr-nptmethods.bsky.social & @ipsa-rc31.bsky.social It's the final piece in our special edition of #PublicHumanities & meant 2 b short+accessible: www.cambridge.org/core/journal...
I think this delightful exercise in public political philosophy would interest @wendysalkin.bsky.social in particular. See e.g. philosophy.clientdev.site/shows/who-sp...
This looks great @psapolthought.bsky.social, and not surprised to see my excellent colleague @tariqmodood.bsky.social in the group photo :) Just wondering if there are any materials coming out of this that the rest of us could read, listen to, browse, etc.?
Deadline extended for this very interesting workshop on the designing of political theory curricula: philevents.org/event/show/1... Hosted by @drsvg.bsky.social & others @yorkuniversity.bsky.social. Should b of interest 2 @biapt.bsky.social @ecpr-nptmethods.bsky.social @psapolthought.bsky.social etc
Some workshops end with a plan for publication; others with a new grant application. Not many end by forming a new football team. Many thanks to all the hard work and good times from @ecpr-nptmethods.bsky.social to @ecpr.bsky.social @ecprtheloop.bsky.social and @uniinnsbruck.bsky.social
Come and work with my excellent colleague! Of interest to lots of ECRs across @ecpr-nptmethods.bsky.social @biapt.bsky.social @psapolthought.bsky.social and more besides.
Fascinating talk 2day by @lucasmprado.bsky.social from @ucdpolitics.bsky.social on the methods used by liberal elites to try & justify inequalities (esp. in Brazil & USA). Fascinating for us here at @ecpr-nptmethods.bsky.social to see elite discourse analysed in similar ways to academic pol-phi.
Another full day of reasoning about facts/contexts/norms/principles/values & even reasoning itself here w. @ecpr-nptmethods.bsky.social & #ecprjs2026 @uniinnsbruck.bsky.social & @ecpr.bsky.social. Finished off w. dinner at the 'Golden Eagle' & then a little gazing up at the mountains where they live
Here at @ecpr-nptmethods.bsky.social we always fight the sedentary tendencies of academic life by going out for some kind of walk-and-talk as part of our workshops/conferences.Today was a very special alpine version of that π
Just another view from just another politics department. Nothing special to see here for the 3 day @ecpr.bsky.social joint sessions @uniinnsbruck.bsky.social.
Deep inside the Frauenkirche in Munich I was shocked to find Pope Benedict the 16th trapped in carbonite. Wondering now what he might have said just before it happened. Perhaps 'I love you Lord', to which the Lord replied 'I know'. @enzoreds.bsky.social @simonpaulstevens.bsky.social

We're missing you already! BTW when do I get a signed hard copy???
Looking forward to this very much. Arriving by train through the Alps later today π
Dawn by the Isar in Munich
1st of 2 campuses to travel though on the way to @ecpr.bsky.social in Innsbruck. Particularly fond of this one & enjoyed getting one side of Old Joe in the sun & the other in shade. Probably a better use of my time 2day than eating endless Easter chocolate from the Cadbury factory around the corner.
I find both sunrises and sunsets equally hopeful.
Looking good at the Polity stand today in Oxford @pjthinker.bsky.social & @mattsleat.bsky.social
The Seat, The Seat.
...which then got me thinking about the very different communication strategies of the 2. One talked of facticity/validity whilst the other famously said that 'we live in fictitious times [in which] a fictitious president [sends us to] war for fictitious reasons". That was also in 2003, to be clear.
Giving a talk w. @psapolthought.bsky.social in Oxford on Monday on the fine line between political rhetoric & philosophical reasoning (and why it matters). Got me looking back at some very old notes on Habermas, in which I found as a bookmark on an equally old ticket to see Michael Moore in 2003...
Delighted to welcome @simonpaulstevens.bsky.social to BlueSky πAlways interesting/insightful/inter-disciplinary and well worth following. Also a long-time stalwart of @ecpr-nptmethods.bsky.social. For those tired of the Gandalfs & Sarumans of academic Middle Earth, he's more of a Radagast.
...other highlights inc. With a little help from my friends @humeiraiqtidar.bsky.social, For the benefit of Mr Kite @alfredmoore.bsky.social & a great ensemble Reprise inc. @mgerver.bsky.social. My track -She's Leaving Home- is naturally about what such behaviour says of the systems that produce it.
Delighted this arrived today. Think of it as The Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band of empirical/normative theory, both because it has 12.5 eclectic tracks & because it features the McCartney/Lennon of pol-theory (@jowolff.bsky.social+Avner de Shalit) at track 3 (Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds)...
This is right up my street. Any junior scholars keen on combining empirical/normative theory based in/near the USA should have a look, including members of @ecpr-nptmethods.bsky.social
Yes I do appreciate that! Can't help noticing the location though. Wondering who moved out of Oxford and decided this wasn't going to survive a downsizing...
