WHY YOU SHOULD CONTINUE TO GET THE COVID-19 VACCINE EVERY YEAR 01. COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to be high in the elderly (over age 65) and very young (under age 2). In 2024, nearly 50,000 people died in the US from COVID-19 and it is still the third leading cause of death in adults and eighth in children. 02. Among children and adolescents ages 6 months-17 years hospitalized with COVID-19, 41% had no underlying health conditions. In adults, COVID-19 related hospitalizations increases with underlying medical conditions. 03. Most adults hospitalized with COVID-19 had received no COVID-19 vaccine since September 2022. In children, majority of those hospitalized were not vaccinated. 04. While efficacy on protection against infection is low due to the evolving variants and does also wane, studies have shown the updated vaccines are still nearly 60% effective against hospitalization and death. 05. Studies show that those who were vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine and get infected are less likely to develop post-COVID conditions such as Long Covid and MIS-C compared to those who are unvaccinated. 06. Despite what some disinformation spreaders say, the COVID-19 vaccine is very safe. On myocarditis, countless studies have shown that the risk is significantly higher and more severe with infection compared to the lower incidence with the vaccines. Sabina Vohra-Miller
