by all means i hear pragmata is "pretty good." it's just that re8 is also "pretty good" and what i heard about it was "it's amazing." so by the capcom curve of overglazed new games, pragmata's predicted score curves down to "fine," which i will no doubt test in 2-3 years when i get it for 15 bucks.

the re2 remake is a great game and we've all spent every capcom release since then pretending any of their other new games are even half that good

kind of a testament to where we're at that capcom is on an undeniable hot streak of consistently releasing much better games than any other AAA dev for like 5+ years now, and most of those games range from "pretty alright" to "outright mediocre"

the pc gaming elitism stuff is the same. nobody has unironically called themselves "pc master race" since like 2014 and even as a joke it's all but forgotten. but the battle lines were drawn and no one erased them even after the war was over and material reality had completely changed.

the hatred for "PC gaming elitists" really just stems from a short period of time where PC gamers were
1. still kind of a distinct market and
2. in the middle of ceasing to be a distinct market
so a small percentage of annoying people were very loud about how much they hated consoles for a few years

the overwhelming majority of PC gamers are on middling/low end hardware and dont give a shit about digital foundry, but DF and similar channels are the only people with enough money to visibly register as "PC gaming channels" anymore, even if, say, mandalore talks way more about actual PC games.

PC gaming used to be a distinct culture, you can still see it by watching mandalore or LGR, but discussions of PC gaming today can literally only talk about tech specs because that's all that's left to distinguish it. every game is on every system and all versions are basically identical.

well imo the issue stems from the smugness simply no longer being deserved. people called themselves "PC master race" because the few console ports of PC games were almost universally compromised and noticeably inferior. but now that every game is made for console first, they can't do that anymore.
