ArchiveWeb.page

One solution is to encourage journalists & readers to create & share their own archives. We have open source tools to allow anyone to archive what they're viewing in their browser, eg: our free browser extension: archiveweb.page and Browsertrix, our hosted service, can also crawl logged-in content

This incredible story underscores, amongst other things, the need for trust and transparency in arching tools, and for web archiving toolchain to be fully open source and archives to be verifiable.

Would it be interesting to add some sort of automated way to opt-in to web archiving outbound links posted on atproto, and then extending the appview to view embedded archives (and extending the schema to WACZ files)? Maybe even a way to search for what's been archived so far?

Police seize on COVID-19 tech to expand global surveillance JERUSALEM (AP) — Majd Ramlawi was serving coffee in Jerusalem’s Old City when a chilling text message appeared on his phone.

Here's an example of an archived tweet embedded in a news article with this approach:
apnews.com/article/tech...
as part of our collaboration with www.starlinglab.org
The creator of the archive can also be verified, see: dispatch.starlinglab.org/p/verify-aut...

we've implemented something this using a general web archiving approach: webrecorder.github.io/save-tweet-n...
You can enter a tweet and it'll produce an oembed web archive, which can be downloaded and replayed in the browser using our web component, eg: replayweb.page/embed.html
