I am fascinated with this new bag from Loewe. Not because it's trendy or I want it. It's because it is designed and advertised to be OPEN. It's such a comment on the global economic climate. Like, "yeah, you're stealing from us anyway, so we'll just leave our bags open to make it easier for you."

My take: Poor old Apple. Going back to the HW trough where it began. It tries to bust out into SW, but it just can't seem to get past its roots. It will be interesting to see all the HW #surveillance do-dads Apple will likely be bringing to market under this leadership. I could be wrong...but...

I think two organizations who are succeeding with public literacy and might be a template are @neorsd.org and @cpsc.gov

The only surprise is that it is revealed. The thing about #surveillance is that it is everywhere. There are cameras EVERYWHERE. It's abstracted to a concept, a hidden layer. This revelation shows us how it is functioning in private spaces. And we do not like what we are seeing.

I am qualifying this. Some of my dearest friends do not have degrees. They are genius experts. It's the rushing through that concerns me with this speed degree practice. If you're going to go, go.

Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage.
A woman answers the door.
We have come for the child, says the hooded figure
So soon? she asks
It is time, says the hooded figure.
The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card!
What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure
We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading!
For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness
Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman,
the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them.
Do not cry mother.
I am a writer now.

This is exactly the kind of advert for computers, blurring the boundary between woman and sexy machine, that Mar Hicks finds in the uk computing industry in the 1960s

It's also worth being clear about who's doing the arguing. Palantir sells operational software to defence, intelligence, immigration & police agencies. These 22 points aren't philosophy floating in space, they're the public ideology of a company whose revenue depends on the politics it's advocating.

I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.

Reese is worth about $400 million USD. I suspect she is doing some #AI start-up investments and trying to rally folks. #AI bias is the thing leaving women behind. "Learning to use it" is not going to improve that bias, nor its march towards replacing many people's jobs. Fight the bias, Reese.

Zohran Mamdani: "If you are a Mario Kart fan, government is Yoshi and philanthropy is the Golden Mushroom, that edge we need to beat Bowser on the Rainbow Road. To belabor this metaphor even further, Bowser is corporate greed in this scenario."
