Goodbye for now, My sweet Jan. I'll miss you so much and it hurts to know that I will never speak with you again, but I won't stop loving (others and you,) won't stop believing that the world can be a better place if we strive to make it so through acts of love, big and small. I won't stop creating.
Lastly, Jan wanted very much for anyone, everyone who she has touched in this life to keep -Being Creative.- Draw, Write, Sing, Dance, Play an instrument, Craft, -Create.- By doing so, you are honoring her memory and keeping the collective flame of creativity alive.
Jan didn't want a funeral, so there will not be one. Rather than spending a great deal of time mourning her passing, she wanted us to celebrate her life. Remember her fondly, tell stories about her, and have a party! Therefore, there will be a Memorial Party for Jan. (Please see her FB for details)
She lit so many candles and fanned so many flames. It is wonderful to see. I have had the privilege of reading so many beautiful messages that people sent to her, about how much she helped them grow or change for the better.
That love, acceptance, and seeking to understand is what will make this world a better place than it is. In the meantime, punch Nazis.
We have lost a beautiful light in this world. She has moved on to uncharted waters and has boldly gone on to the next adventure. In her wake though?
I know this is something she has offered to many others -- friends, fans, and found family. It is one of the things that I have always loved most about her. I believe she sought to give what she always wanted for herself, as well as what she truly believed in, in turn:
This talent shined brightest at her panels, within her creative media ideas, and as a Kickass DM in Dungeons and Dragons.
There has never been a day that she has not encouraged me, supported me, and stood by me, even in the face of my doing something that she didn't like or necessarily agree with
She embraced her authentic self and never backed down from saying what she thought was right, despite the sometimes heavy personal cost.
I loved listening to her stories. She had a way of telling a story that made it engaging and entertaining to the last.
To me, she was all of these things and more: a Lover, Confidant, and Kindred Soul.
Jan had a way of lighting up a room and the sort of charisma that made you want to pay attention. She was silly, fun, creative, and smart, but she was also tender, compassionate, and wise.
Jan was a pioneer in the Anime Industry, helping to bring Anime to the States and inspiring many aspiring artists to follow their dreams. A producer and creator, a storyteller, a musician, and a dear friend, Jan has touched many lives throughout her life.

Izumi Matsumoto (Kimagure Orange Road manga) and I cofounded Genesis Digital Publishing, the first digital manga in Japan. We released on new format CD-ROM. It was my manga debut, TRANSCENDENCE. I really loved working with him and I’m so sad he passed away. We had so much fun in his studio.
