Agreed. I love all the new Southside bike lanes but many of them (Broad Rock, Belt Blvd, and to a lesser extent Hopkins) are so full of debris that I have to leave them in places to get through.

Donald Trump and Republicans enacted the largest cuts in history to Medicaid and SNAP because the nation simply “couldn’t afford” them.

Now, the Trump Administration is seeking $200 billion to pursue their illegal, poorly planned war of choice against Iran. Absolutely not.

I've been at Hickory Hill twice in the last 2 weeks for things and both times there were a number of people showing up to try to vote and being turned away (with info that they can come back Apr 6 or go to Laburnum). I think the info sharing on this has been confusing to people.

The House just defeated the Iran War Powers Resolution.

A tragic mistake, but it is not a war authorization.

Under the Constitution, Trump's war remains illegal without authorization from Congress.

Congress shouldn't vote to fund a war it has not authorized—not another penny.

Graphic titled “The Real Story on Virginia Tax Proposals.” It lists five proposed tax changes:
1. Cut middle-class income taxes by increasing the standard deduction (HB979 & HB1074).
2. Make taxes fairer by creating a new top bracket for income over $1 million so teachers and firefighters don’t pay the same top rate as millionaires (HB188, HB979 & HB1074).
3. End the grocery tax (HB978 & HB979).
4. Reform the sales tax so digital goods and services are treated the same as physical purchases (HB900 & HB978).
5. Limit a special tax break currently going to data centers (HB961).

There’s a lot of noise about taxes right now.

The truth 👉Many proposals would lower costs for most #Virginia families and help make our tax code more fair by getting millionaires to pay their #FairShare

The fed admin is turning plowshares into swords (so they can terrorize us & our neighbors) then pretending not to notice when people can't afford food. But in Hanover and around the country, people are saying it's too much. Thank you to everyone who organized & showed up to make this step happen

this reminds me of the way i’ve seen susan bro speak about her daughter, heather heyer. when a fascist murders your child, you aren’t allowed to just grieve. you have to defend their memory, even their very grave.

I'm grateful to Rep. Vindman for using plain language. By saying no and doing the work to oppose this regime, we can still save lives and keep more people free and in this country

Because brave Minnesotans are staying in the streets in subzero temps and filming everything, we know this is happening. Of course it's not the first time our govt has murdered people in the streets. But it's outrageous every time, we have video, & the deportation machine is fundamentally wrong (1/2

Every single thing you're seeing from Minneapolis is as impressive as it looks. It is that brutally cold out. That is a stonking huge number of people. Those utterly filled city blocks are that outrageously Midwesternly wide and broad. Getting everyone there did push Metro Transit to the limit.

I'm so excited about the opportunity for #VaLeg & #VaGov to expand democracy in the workplace this year through broader collective bargaining rights. Our families and communities deserve the high road. Thanks to @ssurovell.bsky.social & @kathykltran.bsky.social for your leadership! #OrganizeTheSouth

Some advice from someone who grew up in Baltimore where this happens more: If this pans out as a snow-then-sleet/ice storm, I suggest not shoveling until after the sleet/ice is finished. A layer of snow under the ice makes ice removal easier.

And, yes, prepare for an extended power outage.

Retailers Dealing With Increasing Levels of Theft and Violence Report emphasizes importance of preventive measures, coordination with law enforcement

can't believe outlets are running moral-panic headlines again based on flimsy anecdata from the *same* trade group (the national retailer federation) and sponsored by the *same* anti-theft company (sensormatic) that had to retract this *same* "study" just two years ago for being bogus.

But not every state is able to backfill SNAP like Virginia, and this problem starts at and needs to be solved by the Trump administration releasing the contingency funds to keep SNAP flowing. (4/4)

It's good that Virginia has the resources to help our communities and that Youngkin is getting stare-funded SNAP to people. He clearly recognizes that doing nothing is a bad choice, politically and morally (3/4)

The Trump administration's withholding of SNAP is going to hurt people in communities across our country, and food banks can't make up the difference (2/4)

It's unconscionable that the Trump administration is withholding money for SNAP that their own department of agriculture said was available, and I'm glad many state AGs are suing to stop them from holding SNAP money hostage (it's too bad Miyares won't join and stand up for Virginians) (1/4)

These are moments when history is being made. In this election, a monumental watershed moment has arrived.

Williams: The East Wing rubble mirrors the demolition of America For Richmond native David Hudson Jr., who worked on the White House digital team during the Obama administration, the demolition of the White House East Wing left him feeling hollow

"could double or triple next year if Congress lets its subsidies end. All this is occurring as the nation’s billionaires enjoy their tax cuts — thanks in part to cuts in Medicaid funding — and the increasingly gold-plated White House is about to gain a gilded ballroom." richmond.com/opinion/colu...

The image shows a large government building with classical architectural features, including tall white columns and a triangular pediment. In front of the building, on a green grassy area, are large, free-standing letters that spell out "TAX THE RICH." Several people are gathered on the grass and around the letters, some appear to be holding signs, with the clear blue sky above them. The building has an American flag flying at the top of the pediment.

💯 "Jewish Americans told us — by a margin of nearly 3 to 1 — that Trump manipulates antisemitism dishonestly, using it as an excuse to pause or cut university funding. Only about 1/4 of all Jews nationwide believe the president 'truly cares about protecting Jewish students on college campuses.' "

This is all so horrific. This guy is legally here and has been for 25 years. But it seems he may have been caught once, over 4 years ago, driving without a license. Now, he is detained in prison indefinitely waiting to find out if he will be deported. He has a 17 year old soon who is terrified.
