“In order for me to write poetry that isn’t political,
I must listen to the birds.
And in order to hear the birds,
the warplanes must be silent”

I went to the library to get a book on Pavlov's dog and Schrodinger's cat.
The librarian said that she thought it rang a bell but wasn't sure if it was there or not!
She's not wrong, I too want a plebiscite by all 8 billion of us (WHO HAVE THE PAPERS TO SHOW WE ARE QUALIFIED TO VOTE) on naming every moon dimple.
A McDonald’s where the sign has been reduced to McDo.
There is no McTry.
the realest part of The Metamorphosis is how on top of everything he is still expected to show up at the office somehow
Planet of the apes the musical
I hate every bot I see. From gpa to gpt
From a very early season, Homer returns from video store, "They put on the Waiting to Exhale waiting list, but I wouldn't hold my breath"
My decades long gripe is that right clicking USB drive to choose safely remove/eject is directly below "Format" drive. Those two should be as far apart as possible! I make sure I'm caffeinated and alert when removing a USB.
Equivalent to, I will ruin your career by pointing out a typo you made in a social media post.
“Is there a technology the left is excited about?”
High-speed rail! MRNA vaccines! New cancer treatments! Solar and wind energy collection! Better and longer-range EVs! That wood that's harder than steel! New apples! Fibermaxxing! Buldak Swicy ramen! Muppets! Muppets are too a technology, shut up!
You do want to make sure you get the premium banana with the gold-plated plugs though
I tuned into the Czechia game late and was surprised by the number of shots they got. Saw the highlights and realized, oh each shot was a multiple from rebounds.😬
Every generation a law (like Patriot Act), product (like opioids), technology (like automatic weapons) seems to do something the ruling class desires and those with better sense point out how much worse it might make society and we're told don't worry, we'll be responsible! They never are.
up now on @jacobinmag.bsky.social, I wrote about the New Masses call for working class writers

Picture of The Holy Bible with a sticker that says "signed copy".
If true, this would be worth a fortune.
Watched Bugonia last night. Tremendous performances and an interesting/important premise completely wasted by the ending. Would not recommend.
Just an amazing hate screed written by a real person advocating for real art and real humans connecting around real experiences and expanding their real minds.
My whole life, advocating war has been fed to me as “the adult position,” akin to drinking your coffee black or reading the business section of the newspaper. Let’s be very clear — war is the childish nonsense of impulsive destructive idiots playing baby-brained video games with real human lives.
In 2026 I want all of the decent people to remember one thing.
You aren’t meant to be this disciplined, this self-sacrificing to survive. The environment is supposed to support good living. We can have that. You are not a failure. That is politics.
That is all.
Yearly reminder that you CAN just become a different person, you're not as imprisoned in your life as you think. You can just be the one who dresses nice or exercises or reads a lot, or whatever. You can just start doing it, some people might make fun of you but they don't really care.
I know it's an old tired opinion, but I generally blame NHL brass for not protecting their stars. He had one of the most potent wrist shots I've ever seen and it's been slashed out of him. I watch less and less NHL year by year. Jays and Raps showing how it's done.
Was listening to Avenue Q soundtrack yesterday and the line "George Bush is (only) for now" caught me off guard. I had forgotten about that lyric.
This gets right at my core opinion about AGI: we're not going to get anything like actual "intelligence" from a brain in a jar (or a chip in a computer). Intelligence is ultimately about interacting with the world; only embodied creatures can develop it.
whenever the sun sets at 4:45 pm i open a window, lean out and yell "WRONG" as loud as i can. that usually buys me another hour or two of sunlight
Another lesson Alice taught me: interdependence > independence
it's not that i ever doubted that being a barista was a skilled position, but my year-long effort to try to produce a half-decent latte at home has convinced me that a good barista is easily more skilled than virtually every c-suite executive on the planet
They're confusing life with humanity. Your point, all sorts of living things CAN survive extreme climate change, probably not us, makes them uncomfortable. I want us to survive but I know we're just a fraction of life itself on Earth.

Thanks to Ellyn Lapointe for the opportunity to write about this.
Super excited to see Frankenstein playing at our local independent theatre! Planning on making it a double bill by watching Young Frankenstein first, just so I have proper context for adult Frankenstein.
