There are moments in a career that force you to pause and take a hard look at how you lead. Recently, Iโve had one of those moments.
Iโve shared a short reflection on leading through uncertainty.

Today we remembered the 5 students from UWin who were victims of PS752. 2 missiles, 30 seconds apart - ruled a โmoment of forgetfulnessโ that ended the lives of 176 people. Rest in peace Samira & Hamid - we will not push you aside & forget. They mattered. #PS752
What an awesome cover Alex & a stellar journal! Congratulations ๐ฅณ
People under appreciate the self awareness that grad school delivers. A definite soft skill! ๐๐โค๏ธ
Happy holidays friends. My group could make the grinch sing carols. ๐ถ ๐โค๏ธ๐ Cheers to turning the page on 2025 and new opportunities for all in 2026!
The Act is outdated and should be modernized - but the definitions that take decision making out of scientists hands is worrisome. Ensuring that work with dogs and cats also benefits veterinary medicine is (to me) a reasonable addition - but the devil is in the details.
Animal researchers, patients, advocates for health research please note the proposed changes to the Ontario Animals for Research Act and consider providing input to OMAFA www.regulatoryregistry.gov.on.ca/proposal/52653
Process is important here & has implications Canada wide. (1of2)
Grateful for our region to be involved in this amazing program ๐ Most of Canadians are treated outside our biggest centres. Building capacity and linkages to community hospitals ensures access to best care - and that the answers that we get from these big national projects represent our population
#LoveWhereYouLive last days of this view until the spring ๐ข โฆ soaking it in for one last weekend.
If your on Facebook I encourage your to follow Dr. Jessica Knurick, PhD, RDN amazing fact-based short videos that all scientists should amplify!

We need more Davinโs in the world ๐คฃ
Omg cute yet terrifying :)
Great read ๐
I would go further to say that even those who are established in science need to better prepare for wild uncertainty.
Nailed it Brendan!๐๐
Sharing widely.
Always the best kind of posts. Congrats to Kathryn!! ๐๐
Thank you, @beierlab.bsky.social , for your remarkable impact you will be deeply missed

Frank was the kindest and most inspiring mentor and friend I could ever have hoped for. His wisdom, generosity, and care touched so many lives, including my own. โค๏ธ Frankโs legacy of support and encouragement will always guide us, and we carry forward his spirit in all we do. Iโll miss him forever!
Sincere condolences to you & all the staff & faculty in Phys Pharm. Frank clearly loved being the Chair of such a talented amazing group. My heart breaks for all of you.
7 days ago he was still being a champion for others. Seriously amazing person ๐
For those following this thread - it is with such sadness that we hear of Frankโs passing ๐ He was celebrating others and sharing his love for the beauty and wonder of science right to the very end. He leaves an impressive legacy. We should all aspire to such heights.
Your post reminded me of this poem - I thought Iโd share Frank.
Itโs By Henry Van Dyke
Time is too slow for those who wait,
Too swift for those who fear,
Too long for those who grieve,
Too short for those who rejoice,
But for those who love, time is
Eternity.

Frank you have created a legacy - in your science and the people that youโve mentored and lives that youโve touched. Please know that you are cared for in the scientific community, we are deeply grateful for all that you have given over the years. The world is a better place because of you โค๏ธ
I hope it gets your weight and energy up Frank! Going though so much and still smiling - you are extraordinary ๐
