Structural dynamics of DNA unwinding by a replicative helicase - Nature Cryo-electron microscopy structures of DNA helicases in various conformations provide insight into an ATP-hydrolysis-dependent ‘entropy switch’ that drives unwinding of DNA for replication, with proba...

A drawing of a hypothetical plant that has had a variety of different types of gals induced across it .Caption: Many parts of plants make galls for many types of gall inducers. The plant shown here is not drawn to scale and does not represent any one plant species.Rather, the plant represents a compendium of the many types of de novo growths that plants are able to make in association with a single gall inducer. A key provides the abbreviation for each group of gall inducers. Next to each gall in the illustration, the abbreviations provide examples of gall inducer groups that can have this sort of effect on this plant item.

This is my favorite conceptual figure from a paper. It's stunning.

The image of a hypothetical plant represents a compendium of different types of galls and if also a key to the types of organisms that induce each type of gall. @newphyt.bsky.social

Whales' eyes offer glimpse into their evolution from land to sea: U of T researchers University of Toronto researchers have shed light on the evolutionary transition of whales' early ancestors from on-shore living to deep-sea foraging, suggesting that these ancestors had visual system...

Professor Belinda Chang studies protein evolution, focusing on visual proteins like rhodopsin. One of her studies on evolution of rhodopsin showed that whales evolved swiftly to become deep divers #evolution #photoreceptor #rhodopsin 🧪 www.utoronto.ca/news/whales-...
