My reaction reading the Iliad in jr. high as it slowly dawned on me that the horse wasn’t in there:

I’m guessing the Atlantic drunk FBI director story probably had more billable hours of lawyer review prior to publishing than actual hours of reportage.

I’m sure this is true. Here in the US we chose the other side of this trade. I do feel bad for the Americans who are bankrupted by healthcare costs, but at least those of us with decent coverage absolutely never have to accept any frustrations or indignities, unlike our poor Canadian counterparts.

It’s about time someone cut the oil companies a little slack

And even if that were true now, it certainly wouldn’t have been true when Trump was growing up (and corner stores were more prominent across the whole country), when (I’m guessing) very few white people would have known the term “bodega”

I need to print this article out and go through it with a highlighter. So many utterly delightful sentences.

Feed it the Fighting Baseball roster and ask it who it thinks you should sign.

The hilarious thing about them going all in on the affordability message is that if they do take power, they are extremely unlikely to move the needle in ways that would resonate with the electorate, which will reinforce their rep as being ineffectual.

The Phillies broadcast from Colorado over the weekend had the same issue. I thought there was something wrong with the center field camera mount that it was vibrating/bouncing.

So are you on the way back to Washington? Working the phones to bring just a small handful of your R colleagues along on impeachment? How are you fulfilling your duty?

My rep had someone answering but not the Senators. Though I rarely get someone on the line in their offices.

And I certainly don’t expect the bootlicking cabinet to invoke the 25th. And that’s not the proper response to this situation anyway.

And they love to talk about reaching across the aisle. Here’s your fucking chance.

Are any Republicans likely to flip at this point in the madness? I don’t know, probably a long shot. But until January that’s one of the only chances they have.

If your Dem member of Congress isn’t spending every waking hour reaching out to their Republican colleagues trying to build a short-term coalition to immediately impeach and remove him then they are an absolute waste of space.

That’s pretty bad. Imagine if he didn’t have the constitutional authority to make that choice and Congress actually held him accountable.

Just went to the website, and he’s basically an ai middleman, charging his customers for “AI” tools that he’s obviously getting from Anthropic. If I wanted this shit, why wouldn’t I just go straight to Anthropic?

I’m pretty sure most of the salesman (all men of course) weren’t even aware of the rebate. We had to eventually get ours in the DC area since the South Jersey dealers barely stocked the PHEV version at least at the time.

and since it also has the gas engine there wasn’t even the range anxiety argument they could use!

This is true. We bought the plug-in hybrid Pacifica in 2020, and every Dodge-Chrysler dealer I talked to was absolutely baffled that we’d want to pay more for it than the ICE version. And once I got the federal rebate it was the same price!

And to top it off, now we have a whole generation of Hollywood talent that has never had to learn any lessons about economy of storytelling

Anyway they’re wrong, and my hot take is that most ambitious prestige shows would be better served (narratively and artistically) as two hour movies.

If the books came out today and were as much of a hit, whoever had the rights would almost certainly turn them into a show rather than movies. You don’t have to cut a single thing or make hard storytelling choices! The built in fans will be mollified and audiences will tune in season after season

Money, yes, but I also think a lot of people in the entertainment business now believe (wrongly) that tv series with movie-quality production values are a superior story-telling medium.

And as someone who works in urban forestry, I personally think the Miyawaki method is a very cool forestry tool, but it’s trendy deployment in cities as “tiny forests” isn’t good urban design and a very inefficient way to bring nature into cities (which is a general goal I very much support)

It seems to be a Miyawaki-method “mini-forest,” which is all the rage. www.sugiproject.com/forests/heri....

Having a hard time understanding that book - everyone knows Custer died at Little Bighorn. What, exactly, is that book presupposing?
