February 6, 1964: Anna Gajová, painter & illustrator, is born in Prešov 🇸🇰. She is a representative of the Slovak fantastic realism school. Gajová's work is dominated by fantasy compositions with symbolic or allegorical content. She also illustrated several Carpatho-Rusyn publications.

February 3, 1895: Musician Stephen Skimba is born in Wołowiec 🇵🇱 († 1966). He is best remembered for his recordings of a Lemko wedding & folk music. Skimba also played a leading role in producing the film Lemko Wedding (1929), co-founded & worked with several Russophile organizations.

February 1, 1931: Painter Volodymyr Mykyta is born in Rakošyno 🇺🇦. His portraits, genre scenes, landscapes & still-lifes are filled with reflections on human existence & problems faced by the modern society. Mykyta took active part in the post-1989 Carpatho-Rusyn revival movement in Ukraine.

January 29, 1932: Andrej Gaj, painter & illustrator, is born in Sukov 🇸🇰 († 2016). His works are primarily landscapes, still-lifes, portraits & figurative compositions. Gaj has also completed large-scale works (mostly in mosaic) for public buildings in eastern Slovakia.

January 22, 1880: Sándor Bonkáló, philologist & translator, is born in Rakhiv 🇺🇦 († 1959). He published several studies that presented all aspects of Carpatho-Rusyn society to the Hungarian public. After WWI, Bonkáló also chaired the Rusyn Studies department at the University of Budapest.

January 20, 1888: Ioann Polanski (pseud. Lemkyn), priest, journalist & historian, is born in Banica 🇵🇱 († 1960). He was the first chancellor of the Lemko Apostolic Administration & a Lemko-Soiuz supporter. After WW2, Polanski wrote a history of the Lemko Region, published in USA.
Roman flask made of translucent cobalt blue glass in the form of a mouse. The neck of the flask is funnel-shaped and slightly up-turned to look like a tail. The body of the vessel is rounded and has four tooled trails for feet. A separate blob of glass forms the head with eyes, ears, and a pointed nose. The flask surface is decorated with distinctive trails of glass which have been flattened and notched, known as ‘snake thread’.
