Too young for MySpace but you just need to pick a fun framework and over engineer it to the point where you basically have production ready libs in it... 😅

An Electricity Maps chart of the 5-minute granular electricity mix in CAISO, including 24 hours of data on which energy sources are being used during any given period. The chart includes nuclear, geothermal, biomass, solar, wind, hydro, battery storage, and gas.
A screenshot of the Electricity Maps desktop view including the west coast of the United States, with charts visibly showing the 5-minute carbon intensity and 5-minute electricity mix for CAISO over a 24-hour period.
📣 We're excited to announce that our historical and real-time grid data is now available in 5- and 15-minute intervals.
⏰ The more granular the data, the deeper the insights, driving decarbonization.

This is a picture of a cake that has a relatively current image of the world map of the electrical grid available at electricitymaps.com, with colors indicating the carbon emissions of each grid region. There are 9 candles on the cake, and the words "9 years of Electricity Maps"
Electricity Maps is nine years old today! 🎂
Thank you to all our customers, partners, and community for all you do to help push data-driven decarbonization forward. ⚡️

How can data centers and IT infrastructure help *balance* the grid while reducing carbon emissions and costs? We have some ideas.
Defendants Sunoco and Shell, along with 15 other energy companies, had asked the court to intervene and stop the Hawaii lawsuits from proceeding.
Unbelievable oil companies are allowed to get away with this, especially while getting huge $ in govt subsidies
Check out our 72h view 🗺️! Perfect for tracking Europe's wind recovery.
While a dunkelflaute is rare, the data shows how quickly renewables bounce back. Here's how the German grid transformed:
Wind: 66.82% of demand
Carbon: 592→227 g/kWh
Price: €936→€13.96/MWh
Exports: 11.36GW
Hydro Storage: 2.78GW
A major dunkelflaute hit Europe at 5pm yesterday: wind & solar generation dropped while energy prices hit €936/MWh in Denmark/Germany. A reminder of the need for load shifting, diverse energy sources and storage solutions for the winter months.

If we get gas out of our homes: “Fine airborne particulate matter and other air pollutants could decrease by 300,000 tons, the equivalent of taking 40 million cars off the road.”
New Historical Navigation feature in the app! 🎉

"Every year, billions of vehicles worldwide shed an estimated 6 million tonnes of tire fragments. These tiny flakes of plastic, generated by the wear and tear of normal driving, [account] for 28% of microplastics entering the environment globally."

Agreed!
But these milestones are an important step toward that, whether it’s renewable or low carbon!
Milestone in Texas: At 12:00pm on the 24th of November ERCOT's grid hit 73.85% renewable power (45.23% wind + 28.62% solar), driving carbon intensity down to 127 gCO2eq/kWh!

One of the coolest climate OSS projects, love the visualization. How green is your grid rn? ⚡️⚡️⚡️
