perhaps this is better or worse than it used to be. I miss its feeling. I think it could be a sweetmetal, maybe. #poem #poetry #writer #writersky #trans #transgender #transitioning #butch #poet #poets

this semester has felt so weird.
there's a collective feeling of "what's next?" from both the students and faculty.
most of my professors have acknowledged how fucked up everything is, but none of us know what to do about it.

a page from a poetry zine chapbook with an abstract black and white spot illustration. the text reads:

you are still dislocated from reality and find little relief, still hate
your body in ways you pretend to have unlearned, still ache,
have not suddenly become happy. but you’re not meant to
express anything less than conviction. than this saved me. even
now, shouldn’t you clarify that you don’t regret transition
(make it very clear, (hop out of the poem, (give it a complete
sentence)? how dare you not jump for joy?

it is not enough. you are still mad, they don’t medicate this
sufficiently. they don’t even try. its not
your body, it’s what the world does to it

furthermore, when we scorch our roots through transition, detransition is the threat for earth to reclaim us.

anyways, more about this piece!

it’s a counter to the rhetoric that trans people must all regret transitioning, they’re just lying to themselves, and there is no happiness in a lie.

trans joy is very real. how can one fake their own happiness to themselves? “manufactured” or not, joy is joy.

A visual poem with words inside the transgender symbol. There is a silhouette of a person from shoulders up in the middle of the symbol, meant to resemble the reflection of a person in a handheld mirror, which the transgender symbol resembles. The title of the piece is “The mirror I place in your hands.” It reads: “surely/quickly time will pass. worship/scorn the mirror. in the mirror you are you. the mirror is time. are you not quite you yet? just wait. are you scared? because I am terrified. but I’m not coward enough to forget myself. skin grows slowly when you are unaware. live, and you will see your body transform.”

here is “The mirror I place in your hands,” a visual poem i wrote about HRT and the fears/affirmations surrounding it. if it’s hard to read, i provided the entire transcription in the alt text. #trans #nonbinary #poetry

That name drowned in a river of crimson,
Where arterial roads could lead to freedom,
Or to darkness—
I cared not which came first.

That name was banged against drywall,
A punishment served cold
For the crime of being hungry,
For the crime of being there.

That name lingers in betrayal's shadow, Splintered by broken promises,
In hands meant for holding, not hurting.

That name was recycled, shouted, and
Ruined beyond repair.
That name became vile like rotted fruit
In the mouth of my memory.

That name has been dead,
You all should've mourned by now
Because I already have,
A funeral held in silence,
Where only I attended.

Isn’t it ironic that the character limit for the alt text is like 6x the limit for a post? Anyway, I wrote a poem for my dead name. I thought it deserved one last send off.
