Lots of good green announcements from Miliband's department at the moment.

In other Ed Miliband news… the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (heat pump subsidy) is going up from £7,500 to £9,000 for homes in rural areas that rely on oil or LPG.

Given the spike in heating oil prices, and how good an option heat pumps are in rural areas, this is a good idea

Happily, the government has been listening to Sam.
Ed Miliband will be doubling down on clean energy today (giving a speech at 11) announcing moves to shift more legacy renewables on to Contracts for Difference…

Former Tory leader leaves party to stand for Reform He resigned from Plymouth after 110 trees were cut down

The Conservative councillor who ordered the chopping down of the trees in the middle of the night on Armada Way in Plymouth is now standing for Reform UK.

Not surprising considering Reform is a retirement home for failed Tories.

📺 I was on BBC Politics West today, talking about why our PM was right not to take our country into the US war with Iran (despite pressure from Tories and Reform).

I set out some of our Labour Government’s cost of living support so far, both in response to the conflict and more widely:

'Industrial scale' solar farms attacked by Norfolk's Green The county council's Green leader says solar panels should be locally owned and put on roofs.

There is considerable overlap between

1. Believers in a free lunch without trade offs
2. NIMBYism
3. The Greens

You always get a lot of angry replies here if you complain about the Greens blocking solar farms or power grid upgrades. Maybe they should stop instigating pile-ons and start instigating pylons.

Oh boy. Found this Green candidate's 2015 Christian Party leaflet, where he condemns "secular culture" and the "death culture" of abortion.

I get that people's views can change but this is quite a turnaround for a mature guy...

I'm a broken record on this but the radicalisation and brain rot of Gen X/boomers is a massively under-appreciated problem

The idea that universities ”tend to exclude conservative intellectual traditions” is off base on two fronts: 1) how are “conservative intellectual traditions” relevant to the most of the popular majors and faculty research areas, such as computer science, engineering, the natural sciences?/1

Well, this is pretty awful.

You don't create a support group or do welfare checks on these sorts of people. You don't just ask them to delete posts. You kick them out of your party.

It's a depressing trend that 'progressive' parties – the Greens, now the SNP – are promoting fantasy economic policies. Seems not very intellectually healthy!

Totally endorse this opinion. Amazingly not everyone wants to put all their banking on their phone. It also worked on around 1/2 to 1/3 of apps when we setup a new tv

QR codes need to die in a fire. They're fiddly, you have to have a signal and they're just a truly shit experience for the user. It's one of the worst hangovers of the pandemic, and food places that still insist on you scanning a code for the menu clearly hate their customers

If one of my party's recent prime ministers had redecorated the Number 10 flat in a way that ended up involving TWO separate inquiries and a Wikipedia page, I would simply not have put out a press release confirming that the current prime minister had spent less than the allowance he was given.
