Having to explain that being a lesbian is important to me, but if I end up being single for the rest of my life I'd be cool with that.

A nighttime photograph of stacked logs with a blue tarp thrown on top of them. With only the distant glow of street lights as an extra light source, the scene has a greenish-yellow tint contrasting a dark magenta sky.

Very true! I just kind of wish it was more centered around the concern of stagnating and less of "I can't see myself doing this long term."

After feeling down about art yesterday, randomly receiving unprompted encouragement was greatly appreciated. 😭

Wildflowers, a couple of springs ago, in the churchyard in Buckfastleigh, Devon. This is actually a very spooky spot in winter as it's the resting place of the allegedly Satanic Squire Richard Cabell - inspiration for Arthur Conan Doyle's Baskerville legend - whose corpse is boxed in by a somewhat incongruous structure, a little pagoda-ish, but also not unlike the kind of public toilet you might find in a small British town, which sits on the south side of the church. Do NOT walk around it backwards as the Devil will bite your fingers and Cabell will release his hell hounds. Also, the church has been burned down by Satanists not once but TWICE in the last couple of centuries. (I wrote about all this in more detail in my book 21st-Century Yokel, and a couple of the scarier gravestones inspired bits in my novel Villager.

Wildflowers love dead people.

My sister was in shock the other day when I had to explain to her that a substantial section of my audience is furries.

A vibrant, pulp-cover style painted illustration of two butches playing pool. Nicky leans over the pool table toward the viewer to make her shot, while Henry chalks her cue in the background - clearly looking at the view of Nicky's ass instead of the game at hand.

A close-up painting in the same style. Henry is now seated on the edge of the pool table with Nicky's hands all over her. Their game is clearly forgotten as they make out.

Two butches dating each other might have been frowned on in lesbian life of the 1950s, but no one said anything about a friendly game of pool... 🎱

A drawing of wives Anna and Allyson embracing and holding hands. The pair are coloured in a limited pink palette. Anna, the taller of the two, wears grid patterned short sleeved shirt, trousers and trainers. Her light hair is short with a small curtain parting to the side. Allyson wears a striped hoodie, black waistcoat, trousers and laced boots with a jacket tied about her waist. Her hair is also short but without a parting.

The decorative frame behind them consists of succulent plants in a green colour palette.

I've also been having the itch of transferring my "sketchbook color palette" (burgundy, pinks and oranges) to both painting + printmaking.

Tbh, I'm looking forward to my 30s! Hoping and praying that it'll be better than my 20s.

Watercolors make me abandon my typical earthy palette for blues and greens.

The same ceramic sphinx in the last post now digitally illustrated.
In the top panel it sits with a giant grin, speaking. The text reads "A man in a car saw a golden door, a silver door, and a bronze door. Which door did he open first? The car door!"
Bottom left it goes flying through the air, mouth open in a snarl. The text reads "Riddle failed! (Mind you they are the size of a kitten, don't worry about it). Bottom right shows them curled up on their back, blissfully relaxed, eyes closed for a nap. The text reads "Two minutes later". Scattered throughout the illusration are three small, simple doodles, looking up in wonder at a flowering plant, on its back, legs sticking straight up with a frustrated expression, and the last one; tail high with a happy smile.

I've been so tickled after making the ceramic sphinx in my last post that I couldn't help but draw them for some fun this weekend :)

Multiple angles of a ceramic sculpture of a tiny sphinx against a white background, only a bit over an inch or 2.5 centimeters long. They're standing, head slightly raised. It has a silly, happy expression. Its brown body is densely packed with black stripes, contrasted by white wings, white tummy, and a white star on the nape of its neck.

So real! Once you try any other color, it's so hard to go back to white.

Cream-colored paper rules extra hard for printmaking and watercolors.

Sometimes I struggle with transferring the charm of my digital art to traditional work, but one small detail that helps is using cream paper. I just love how it makes things, especially colors, feel softer.
