TTRPGs back then were marketed to its small base, and the wargaming roots were still very much present. It's a more broad market now, but also less focus on minutae because frankly time has shown it doesn't matter that much for modern play-styles.

Fantasy and TTRPGs are very much intertwined, and if you look at the numbers, it makes sense. But yeah, I agree, it’s a bit samey. I think we’ll see more variety once the D&D dust settles.

What a superb time we had at Sognacon! We met up with Rollespillpodden, Spillkultur, and other like-minded people. And of course, as descendants of Vikings, we do our best talking with a bit of beer down our gullets.
