It bears repeating that historically, the #1 thing that keeps people alive in hard times and disasters is “the ability to play well with others”

nicotine works pretty good on ADHD, and the real, non-carcinogenic ADHD medications are incredibly hard to get, constantly in shortage and you get treated like dogshit for using them. nicotine delivery system fads will keep coming up as long until people have options other than self-medication
There was that big panic like a decade ago about how being passively exposed to Instagram models was giving girls body image problems and now people are using AI to inject extremely specific body image problems into girls directly 😐
do not try to come at me with a genre of pornography being universally immoral unless you have a very strong argument that you learned from sex workers. i saw what happened when we all turned our fucking backs on weird porn. it never stops with the shit you think it will.
Thirty minutes is the timeline from when they knew she was down.
They waited over an HOUR to actually get in there to give her care.
They arrived on the scene at 3:35.
It's likely she could've been saved if cops had actually just gone inside.
THIRTY MINUTES.
thirty goddamn minutes.
everybody thinks they're playing five d chess. just try to do good things. force Rs to either go along or block good things and look bad.
It will be extremely interesting to see what institutions like Fenway Health and NYU Langone do now. The ostensible reason for their ending of youth gender care is now gone - will they resume care for all the trans kids they abandoned?
Marriage equality is slowly being degraded through SCOTUS doctrine on religious freedom so that it's a second class marriage. If the court rules on this as expected, whats to stop a Catholic hospital from turning away the spouse of an LGBTQ person or refusing to treat an LGB person at all?
The Supreme Court is taking up a case on whether Catholic schools that refuse to accept the children of gay parents are entitled to taxpayer funding.
I'm sure it will be 6-3 with the answer being yes.

i respect season 2 of the pitt for saying "ignoring your depression & trauma doesn't make you the sympathetic hero, it makes you a problem in the fucking workplace"
It is important to keep in mind that a lot of the natalist panic in the West is in response to a successful feminist push to reduce the rates of child rape.
(Teenage girls are statistically most often knocked up by adult men. I think the average age is around 23.)
Feminists for ages: we are not just vaginas and baby making parts.
A trans woman enters the room.
Those same feminists: we are only vaginas and baby making parts.
Fucking clowns.
Genuinely, how are you supposed to teach law when decisions can be handed down without the legal reasoning behind it? You can teach about legal interpretations you disagree with but it’s hard to stretch nothing but “nah” into a whole class.
Abortion rates in red states have not decreased, aside from medically necessary ones. Pregnancy has become much more dangerous. slate.com/news-and-pol...
At a fundamental level, I understand salience but it will always bother me why people are activated by certain things and not all injustice. This image upsets me not because of the symbolism but rather the broader ethnic cleansing that is behind it.

people are afraid of palantir's surveillance and social control
but they'll gladly carpet bomb the interpersonal webs of connection and rebroadcast, out of fear their friends will judge them if they don't.
and perhaps they will, perhaps they will.
irta "guy who gets [obtains] jokes from trans women" because that's definitely also a Type of Guy
Every superhero is a metaphor that fights other metaphors of the same clade
The Flash is a physics, who fights other physics (mirrors, aerodynamics, cold). Superman is a god, who fights other gods. That’s so good, but Batman is a fear who fights other fears. That’s always the easiest match to sell.

Yes. Massachusetts law expressly protects access to gender-affirming healthcare services.1 Neither the January 28 Executive Order nor the February 25 OCR Rescission changes state law. Patients can still access gender-affirming care either in person or via telehealth in Massachusetts. What obligations do healthcare providers have with respect to transgender patients in light of the federal actions? Massachusetts law continues to bar discrimination against transgender patients in healthcare. Under Massachusetts law, patients are entitled to access supplies, care, and services of a medical, behavioral health, mental health, surgical, psychiatric, therapeutic, diagnostic, preventative, rehabilitative or supportive nature relating to the treatment of gender dysphoria. The denial of that care is contrary to Massachusetts law and may run afoul of Massachusetts anti-discrimination statutes. Do the federal actions make gender-affirming care illegal under the female genital mutilation statute? Consistent with the statement issued by Attorney General Campbell, there is no connection between “female genital mutilation” and gender-affirming care, and no federal law makes gender-affirming care unlawful. The Western District of Washington recently agreed that there was “no credible threat of prosecution” under that statute for providing gender-affirming care and noted that the federal government itself confirmed “that the Executive Order does not expand the criminalized conduct under that statute.” Washington et al. v. Trump, 2:25-cv-00244, Dkt. No. 233 (Order Granting in Part and Denying in Part Preliminary Injunction) at n.1. Do the federal actions strip federal funding…
'It's a scary time to be 14 and trans' Patients' families, however, are not staying quiet. After Baystate's decision, some of the parents filed civil rights complaints with the Massachusetts Attorney General. (The Attorney General's office did not respond to NPR's request for comment.)
everyone sees the statements from the attorney general in the first image. only trans people and their families experience the silence from the attorney general in the second image.

it sounds & is bad, but a more accurate heuristic than trusting what elites say about their commitment to trans lives is:
is there a risk that truly defending trans people could inconvenience a cis person or cost anyone money?
if so, they won't do it.
that will be right more often than promises.
parents and trans youth cannot be expected to know they are being lied to. your governor and attorney general and mayor all say they've got your back. your mainstream lgbtq orgs are silent. your cis friends repeat it to reassure you. the truth barely gets coverage, and rarely fully when it does.
Even in places like San Francisco and New York, hospitals are ending care. Vulnerable kids - ones with public health insurance or nervous parents - are losing access. And once kids can’t access care, even temporarily, they experience permanent changes that cannot be reversed.
Right now where you live healthcare for trans kids is either being made literally illegal by your state or made functionally illegal by the unlawful threats of the federal government and a care infrastructure glad to sacrifice trans kids on the altar of appeasement.

Like... I'm sorry, but to win future elections, you need a good chunk of the people who sat out in 2016 or 2024 to vote for you, and I just don't think that sneering at them and saying it's their fault that things are the way they are right now is going to win them over, even if you truly believe it
The other, more broad term that is commonly used is "system impacted" and if you object to that then its clear you're really just like...dismissive of social work?
Its straightforward language used by people who need to understand the ways that the criminal legal System has Impacted people.
