Ssh, don't warn them! *rubs hands*
Watching @bigjet.tv and seeing Jerry and Gilly simply driving around in a car fills my heart with joy. Welcome back, Jerry!
I'm told the data was due to be updated 16th-18th January(!)
A three-pane Dilbert comic strip. In the first pane, a character in a blue outfit with a red cape says "Step away from that network server! I'm certified". In the second pane, the character screams "I SUMMON THE VAST POWER OF CERTIFICATION". In the final pane, Dilbert look at the character, who is saying "Well, this is embarassing. That's all I remember from the classes."
I may well make zero use of the additional AI features

New IntelliJ IDEA release - 2026.1. Given how much I use it, and that I've not looked at the EAP, I'm excited to see what it's got to offer!
Inevitable.

There are some amusingly specific SNOMED codes used in medicine. Some of the ones I found this evening:

228229002 Poncho (physical object)
159690009 Chef - plain fare (occupation)

It was light when I got up at 6am. Brighter times are coming!
I had a sudden panic it was next weekend, but... phew!
Wasn't me
Companies House is really having a bad week. First they accidentally exposed millions of business owners to having possible ID theft (etc), and now their media email account appears to have been hacked by a swan
It was a lot easier than I thought to use Network UPS Tools (NUT) to set the replacement battery installation date of my APC Back-UPS units...

OK this is nuts.
A vulnerability in the Companies House website that let *anyone* with an account view ***ANY COMPANY'S DASHBOARD***, see all personal info and - I think - modify company records.
A cautionary tale: although batching operations to a database may be quicker than performing them one by one, it uses more memory.
Measure your application's performance and resource usages and find the sweet spot - don't just increase the batch size and throw more RAM at it!

Hurry up, May - I want my annual dose of Devoxx!

Each time the orange one opens his beak to give a short (well, long) blast of hot air, I visualise him as Mayor Quimby from The Simpsons
Thank you, this is the timeline cleanse that I needed
Once again, going to @devoxx.uk has helped me work better. I needed some test data for an application for a customer, and remembered @jaapcoomans.nl's talk on DataFaker www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lKz...
Result? A delighted customer and a happy developer :)

I needed to optimise some code that took about 20 minutes to process a file - it's within the 30 minutes the client is happy with, but I can do better.
A few minutes work and it's down to 10 seconds. That'll do!
I did the same, except managed to turn up a week early. This time of the year…
