Great to see this "spatially explicit" update to the SHAPE Framework for scoring and benchmarking soil health indicators for any location in the contiguous United States.

Digitally mapping soil health at regional scale: disentangling drivers and predicting spatial land use effects Soil health (SH) is inherently dynamic, and traditional soil surveys do not capture it. Its spatiotemporal variability presents challenges to understa…

Valentina Rubio's paper out on digital soil mapping of soil health indicators in NY. This is a very novel approach of using the crop data layer and NDVI (in addition to the standard climate and soil covariates) to predict dynamic soil health indicators.

Pedotransfer Functions for Soil Protein Based on Random Forest Modeling for Routine Soil Health Analysis Autoclaved-citrate extractable soil protein (ACE protein, hereafter referred as “soil protein”) is a novel biological soil health indicator that can indirectly capture a soil’s capacity to supply n...

PhD chapter 4 of 5 is now published. Check it out if you are using soil protein as a soil health indicator.

R.F.K., Jr., Wants to Eliminate Fluoridated Water. He Used to Bottle and Sell It Donald Trump’s nominee to lead H.H.S. once started a bottled-water line, Keeper Springs. What was in it?

A chemical analysis of RFK Jr.'s bottled water line, which he shuttered in 2013, found that it contained more fluoride -- the mineral he now wants to eliminate -- than is typically found in tap water. From this week's @newyorker.com: www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

Soil organic carbon to clay ratio in different pedoclimatic and agronomic conditions in northeastern North America Soil organic carbon levels are strongly influenced by pedoclimatic and agronomic environments; hence, establishing universal threshold values for SOC …

Hot off the press -

New paper assessing the utility of SOC/clay in northeast North America. We found that SOC/clay is too clay biased and that SOC/SOCexpected in pasture systems is much more appropriate tool to assess SOC levels in temperate North America.

But there is also some nuance with soil health below 6 in.

Not sure I agree with you here that the tillage undoes most of what has been accomplished by a grass sod in terms of carbon storage. The benefits of no tillage on carbon storage in temperate climates has been oversold due to soil scientists shallow sampling (<12 in)
