Konstantinou’s in Ontario, NY. My tiny tiny town had two diners. My parents avoided both but would take us to the Highland Park Diner in Rochester.
Could I have a bigger crush on the man? (Yes) but my god
Big HOA neighborhoods like this can have super strict rules about rentals (no short term and a cap on the number of long-term)
Teacher here. They are absolutely not learning via chatbots in any way comparable to learning with a competent teacher.
The story of my life and why it will take me 10 years to feel comfortable with my two different one hour lessons every day.
Me. Every time. Pay us sustainable wages that make it worth it to stay. Yes, current teacher training is inadequate but, even if it were, the wages are even less so.
I’m sorry, what??,they can look like THIS?????
Very local, uncontroversial take. The Safari Eatz food truck is killing it. Also the Downtown Cary Park is incredible.
An image of the Artemis II NASA SLS rocket. The launch vehicle is outlines in blue with the caption 'in the sea'. The service module is red with caption 'took them around the moon then burned up' At the tip the Launch Escape System is outlined red saying 'burned up' Second stage fairings are outlines black saying 'aerodynamic fairings that also burned up. Finally the re-entry vehicle is outlines green stating 'came home.
No problem!
This should make it easier to grasp: it's way more complicated than this but it gets the general idea across.
Sticks and stones pizza is a fave of mine
I used to think we needed some sort of open discussion in class to sort it out. Nope. It’s propaganda from the mouths of children parroting online talking heads. I tell them that evidence rules in this room and they can talk more when they bring evidence. Back to the NASA photo feed.
I shut a kid down so fast today when he just wanted to voice his opinion that he didn’t believe the Artemis II mission was real.
One thing I have learned is that extremely online upper middle class middle school boys absolutely are disinformation agents and they have a lot of social power.
My kids have no memory of any politics but those of this hateful fucking bastard. May they live long enough to see something better.
The duct taping to make a light tight incubator was extremely relatable. 100% did that as a lab tech.
Escalation. Toddler figured out the deadbolt.
I went from long hair back to my short this winter. No regrets!!
Indeed. I didn’t even think twice about it
I used to bike commute through Harvard Square and across the Mass Ave bridge. Near death every day
A silver and electric blue small hardtail mountain bike with panniers is leaning against a gray wooden backyard fence. It has bright orange handlebar grips and the saddle has a large tear in the fabric with exposed foam.
New handlebar grips on the bike I bought with waitressing money in 2005. The saddle is overdue for replacement but maybe duct tape instead for fun?
But also I teach middle schoolers now and my colleagues are incredible. And middle schoolers primarily care about whether or not I know about the latest meme or if I have asked them how they’re doing with genuine interest. A 1000% better work environment than academia.
2 years in a PhD program on a prestigious fellowship. Switched to a teaching master’s. Recently took the LSAT twice to see how I would do (quite well) and if I want to do law school (No. I am 39 and have a toddler.)
Still expect to do a doctorate. Maybe an EdD or and education PhD.
What’s the first $1,000+ damage out toddler will cause? Just this evening he was throwing landscaping rocks near our 8’ glass back door and scraped his wooden toy kitchen across the wood floor today. Door is ok. Floor scratch isn’t through the polyurethane.
A++++ meal
Finally made it here today. Thank you for the recommendation!!
Besides the monstrosity of all the big garbage, my day to day is pretty predictable low friction. My parents just bought a house down the road and my dad is sleeping there tonight. Contemplating the weirdness of sharing neighbors with my parents for the first time in 21 years right now.
Sometimes I get annoyed at my stupid neighborhood or roll my eyes at my neighbor. Then I remember a drunk neighbor in Somerville who tried to break into our apartment while threatening to kill his wife. Or I remember how awful a solid 75% of our contractors and neighbors were in St. Louis.
We got solar + battery storage two months ago. I cannot overstate how cool it is to see our house essentially not use any grid power for days on end. Our (evil monopoly) utility is soon going to start paying us to occasionally draw from our battery AND cut us a $7500 check.
Oh snap. Will we get a budget??
